Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

TSC and Farm & Home are out of pine shavings, in Lowell and GR

I was told it has something to do with the weather

they still have them at the ffh in sparta. And the tsc in both cedar springs and greenville and big rapids. I was in all of these on friday. And the c&n sawdust in cedar rock

At the rate the snow is falling, we're going to get dumped on! I work tonight too, which means I get to drive on crappy roads with drunks.
My girls are laying pretty good in this cold weather. My Orps took 8 months to start laying. They are such friendly calm birds. Not to mention they're beautiful!
Be safe today everyone! Time to get some coops cleaned out a bit.

I buy pine shavings at the feed mill in Caledonia. It's cheaper and the bales are much bigger. Whether or not they're in stock at the moment, I couldn't tell you. One of these days we're going to bump into each other at TSC though, I swear.

Thanks for the heads up, @snowflake and lady. We'll need more in a week, and this will save me a failed trip. Lady, is there pretty much just one feed mill in Caledonia?

Yeah, it's called the Caledonia Farmer's Elevator and is located in "downtown" Caledonia, on the main drag. After Blue Ribbon closed in Lowell, it's the next closest thing that we have. But they're really nice there and I've had good luck with them. They carry organic chicken feed with or without soy which is nice (albeit expensive). They also carry Kalmbach feed and large pine shaving bales. You can tell if the pine shavings are in stock just by driving around the back of the building. They keep them stacked by the back door... or by calling them of course :p

Now that you mention it, the TSC in Whitmore Lake was out of pine shavings when I was there on Thursday. I didn't need any so I didn't think too much about it.

Feed store in Capac had a few bags of pine shavings left and I got the last bale of straw. Not sure when their deliveries are. It was sooooo warm yesterday, cleaned out the duck and chicken coops and just enjoyed being out there with them most of the day. They were happy to be out and about as well, you can just tell. Now today

and wrestling got canceled, I can't remember that ever happening. Districts start Wed. and were suppose to get more snow.

OK, so having to call into work really sucks. Why? Because they inevitably start the guilt trip. I don't call in unless I am actually sick (if it were a cough or a sniffle, I'd go and just mask up). And I haven't been sick yet this winter while most of my coworkers have been out for two or three separate incidents. So it isn't like I am one of those who chronically calls in. It makes me ashamed to call in. So you know what? I've spent most of the day feeling like crap because I'm sick, and feeling like crap because I had the audacity to not expose the nursing home residents and coworkers to whatever I'm fighting. I'm almost half expecting one of the nurses or supervisors to visit my home to make sure I am actually sick.

On the plus side, I have a family member to help out with the animals today. I can do animal cares when I'm sick, I just move slower than a lame tortoise.

I'm sorry you're sick, and hope you find relief soon. I know what you mean about the guilt trip. It's crazy how we can't feel okay about taking time to recover and preventing the spread of illness. :(
