Just curious ...as I collect eggs this morning, people have asked me how dark my marans eggs are. Where can you get this chart that people talk about?

Exactly..that's a pretty one. My two Marans just finished their molt & are laying very nice Jumbo ones daily. I now have about 5 shades of brown & green. Wynette could probably "grade" your eggs for ya, too..

I know FF did last year. Those and the white leghorns not too popular; I remember those birds discounted largely when they started escaping and flying around the store LOL!

Pekings, cambles, & runners.
No mallards of any kind anymore due to some new law TSC has to follow. Apparently folks have been turning rouan and pet mallards loose in the wild and just like the mute swans, they are not native and is wrecking the eco system by eating wildlife plants that is for our native waterfowl and are over populating. Im not sure of all detailed reasons as I dont work weekends (I work at TSC) and reasons was issed yesterday. So I will know more tomorrow.

All you need is some hardwood, a fire pit, and a big pot. Really no cost (if you have trees to cut) other than sweat equity. I do use a chainsaw on the wood but split by hand! Using propane (especially this year) is cost prohibitive. The Amish sell it cheaper than you can make it that way. Some of the tree services give away hardwood. You really don't need much if you do small batches. A small batch is 50 gallons of sap to make a gallon, or so. Nothing like sitting by the fire all day and smelling like woodsmoke come dinner time, lol!

That does indeed sound pleasant...something to keep in mind.
What do you use to hold your 50 gallons over the fire?

Ok. I need coop bedding ideas. My coops are getting pretty bad and I'd like to get them cleaned out while it's warmish this week. Our tsc has no pine shavings and getting them at meijer will cost a LOT. A quick glance at cl tells me that no one has straw listed within 90min of us. I have a 7x6 coop, an 8x10 coop and a 3x8 coop.
