Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

LOL! I am cracking up! I, too, used no supplemental heat or light & to top it off, Mother Nature decided it would be cool if most the girls went into a heavy molt! Luckily I still got a few eggs / day from the 10 girls, so I wasn't forced to eat store bought. BUT, my customers here at work were getting pretty bummed out. Had some VERY happy campers today, as the girls have bumped up production to 5-8/day & I was able to bring 5 doz in for people at the office (& my pocketbook doesn't mind that either!)

Is that the buck you got from me?

Pretty soon (mid-March) I'll be breeding the FGs and the CA/NZ doe with a FG. The FG's go really fast. I'd like to get another doe that's steel grey.

Yes he is!

We've not had much luck with litters this year... lost 3 of them, the does were being funny this year refusing to use the nest boxes (they were sanitized).. too bad you don't want a silver buck w/white belly, we have a beautiful one born early winter. Very friendly too. I'm waiting on a silver doe myself! I keep putting the does with my older silver buck hoping to get a silver doe. No luck yet. I would love to get a nice rex to breed in and make the coats nicer. We got some great hides this year. The silver and grey harlequin buck we may hold until they get their winter coats again... everyone is starting to shed now so not a good time to process.

Great advice as usual Opa

. My grandmother lived to be 102 and had a pretty decent mind left at that age.
I am glad you are willing to accept the help. My mother, who insisted on caring for my grandmother (who wanted to live independently I might add) has already told me she does not wish me to care for her when she needs it. This I do not understand at all. I love caring and helping and she has told me she does not want me to when it comes time.

Have a great day too!
Opa is right ; your mom does not want to be a burden and she knows how hard it is but if you are tactful you can help with out taking over

Well, she also is very capable right now...just voicing over her concerns of WHEN she may need help (due to experience with her own mom and now my dad who has severe dementia).
Really, she knows me pretty well and I am not forceful. I love her and am not hurt by her words. She is very independent as I am...it runs in the family

. She will trust me when those times come, I know she will. Just is very interesting those dynamics. The generations have changed what has been "expected". In the old country, it was considered a right of passage to make room for your elderly parents in your home when they needed that assistance. My grandmother's mother stayed with my grandma's sister, but for some reason my grandma did not want mom to care for her even though she was pretty much blind and physically not able to get around! She could not be alone at all.

Opa is right, there are tactful ways to "assist" and not take over. I think we all are afraid that someone will just "take over" and treat us like we have no mind to make decisions.

My FG doe has taken kits out of the nest box to die and left the others she sees fit. Trixie ( the doe I got from you) keeps all of hers, no matter how many, in the box. My plan is to find a FG that is either steel to dark grey. I would like a doe to maximize output. One buck is enough, and he's a sweetheart, so unless he kicks the bucket, he's boss.

There's a pretty decent chance I will be coming back from TSC with some chicks this week - I'm a sucker for them... I don't need all 6, so if anyone near Ann Arbor wants a few, let me know and we can split them. :)

Also ---- Anyone ever bake with goose eggs? I was gifted some and I'm not really sure how to use them. I was thinking with the super dense yolk, the might be good in brownies?
We use them for hard boiled eggs
