I have 2 khaki campbell's, they are excellent egg layers. The TSC in Imlay City had a few last week. I also have 2 muscovy, not so good at egg laying.

I would check it out but Imlay City is two hours from me. I go through there to visit my grandma. I too, have two Muscovies and agree, they are not great layers.

they lost her on the operating table. Bawling. I'm going to do an emergency hatch. It was a wad of straw;

Her lungs had fluid in them that he didn't hear when he did his checks before and during surgery and she aspirated when it got in her breathing tube.
I just wanted the best for her, i have treated it myself before but they get so sick and it's risky. I didn't want to lose her and i did anyway. I wish i'd have made her stay in the house for the winter, but she kept wanting to be with her family.

The dr did not charge me. He felt terrible, i could tell. He told me him and his assistant tried to breathe for her and it just didn't work. They didn't know about the fluid/ mucus until they pulled out the tube. He said that he believed it to be pneumonie, i told him about the mg but he seemed to still lean toward pneumonia. Said that there has been more than usual cases of that this year with the weather. She didn't have any symptoms other than the crop.

Updates, No chicks, TSC's shipment didn't come in. My guinea is back outside. She was much improved this morning but I decided to soak her feet. I wrapped her in a shirt and soaked her feet and inspected her only to realize her nostrils were totally crusted over with dried on food. I soaked, scrubbed and used tweezers to removed plugs that had dried into her little nostril feathers. She was fighting me by the time I was done so out she went. I didn't see how she had been getting around so well with the frostbite and suddenly go downhill, but not being able to breath makes sense.

Out to enjoy the nice weather.

tap... if your bird has frost bitten feet, sending her back outside will more than likely make them worse. Some of my birds that were sick this fall, got crusty plugged noses due to the sinus drainage. Check your guinea's breathing, and check her keel bone to make sure her condition is healthy. Good luck with her.

Sorry you lost your girl fuzzy, you did far more for her than most people would be willing too.

Goats in sweats... funny! Hope the surgery goes well for the chicken..

I got a new bunny. I may have a few more in the next few weeks. The lady "thinks" she's bred. I really didn't want babies, and she couldn't understand why, but felt so bad for the bunnies I had to take her. Filthy cages. Yes, it's winter, but you still have to keep the animals cages clean and dry. She doesn't give them water because it will just freeze. She feeds them lots of greens and apples. Cages piled 3-4 high. At least they were somewhat protected. She had one of those storage thingy with the frame and tarped. So, she kept no records so don't know when or if she will have a litter. Cute lil thing. Have her outside in fencing letting my other bunny and her get to know each other. I know the grand kids will love it if she had babies.

What a beautiful day!! It's sunny and 44*!! Took the dogs for a walk. We all had fun. Them running around and I got to walk on the edges of the ice to break it up and hear that cool crunchy noise!

What can I say.

She was frostbitten over a month ago and has been outside, she was only inside overnight. To keep her inside is a stress to her, she starts hissing and doing her wing display if anyone goes near her. Thankfully I do not see any drainage or respiratory issues. It appeared to be all dried mash so I'm guessing she was pigging out. They have those little hairs/feathers around their nostrils. She is underweight, however she is the oldest bird I own so some of that could be age and I know she was eating and drinking. This afternoon she was outside walking all over and talking with the other guinea. She definitely has some balance issues which may get worse as she loses more toes. As the old girl I'll be keeping her around as long as she doesn't appear in pain and can continue to get around with her friends. I wish I would have gotten a foot picture when she was in, now she again won't let me near.
