still freaking out. I accidentally cracked one of her "developing" eggs only to discover a bunch of nothing in there. Only way to know is to wait, sigh. This is a bigger bunch of notes than mine even! Advise to other potential hatchers, BUY A BROODY! I've been looking for a silkie hen for a year now, those things always seem to be broody!!!

I have a soon to be 1yr old English Orpington that's gone broody. We gave her eggs and she's sitting. We'll see if more of them go broody. Hopefully she hatches some.

Cochins are super broody too!
I have a few that go every couple months and its also catchy! Had 27 broodies at 1 time once! Lol

I have 7 Wellies that came from the "pullet" bin. Based on head pattern and the "eye liner" feature, I concluded that 6 are pullets and 1 is a cockerel. That theory was supported by the TSC worker who said she raises Welsummers for show.

At 3 1/2 weeks, three of the girls have very pronounced tails. Of the other 4, three are just starting to get tails and the male is still a fuzz butt.

Probably not the answer to your question. I should know more in a few months.

Get a duck! LOL These girls try to go broody left and right. Already broke 2 this year!

that is my home town! doesnt surprise me they don't allow...too bad. I grew up near 16 and Gratiot area (I guess that is more Clinton Twp).


Here is group pic of final hatch. Got 13 Baker's dozen! The last two did not hatch and were DIS.

4 Smokey Iowa Blues (beige with darker brown fill in black stripes on back)
2 Birchen Iowa Blues (Very dark brown/black)
2 RSL/Iowa or EE cross (One white, one brown pattern)
3 Delaware/Iowa cross *pretty sure daddy is the Iowa Roo* (they are the three with Gray fill or streaks)
2 EE's (both brown pattern)

RaZ- I have a 5 year old goat named Ethel. She is a good goat, but I had all of my 4 goats tested a month ago for CAE, CL, and Johnes, and she is the only one that got tested positive on CAE and CL. The rest are clean. I will have to cull her, but she is carrying twins, so I will have to wait for her to give birth before putting her down, but I am hoping that I can sell her for meat so she won't be wasted, I can't bring myself to eat her.
I really really hope that her babies are girls. I noticed a few weeks ago that she is starting to bag up, so I am watching her like a hawk, for her babies cannot touch her and she cannot touch them to prevent her transmitting the disease. I will have to bottle feed them cow's colostrum when they are born for the disease can be passed through the her milk.

I know by looking at the calendar that spring has officially arrived, yet when I step outside I have serious doubts. This yoyo weather makes me believe that mother nature's last name must be Duncan.

The woods at our farm has suffered horribly over the last few years. The majority of our trees were ash and the Emerald ash borer left a woods of standing hulks. Next a tornado came thru creating a twisted war zone that is almost impossible to traverse. Even though I will never live to see the results of my efforts I would like to restore it by replanting a lot of white oaks.

Yesterday we took the first step in getting it cleaned up. We bought a piece of equipment that will sure make the effort much easier.

It should be delivered by the end of the week so I am hoping for the weather to improve just a little so we can get started.
