The biggest indicator that you have an ee cockerel is red feathering in the shoulder area. There's no standard colors as they are mutts and you can use just about anything to make them.

I have my first dozen eggs collected for the incubator. Was lucky enough to catch a couple of my barred hens in the nest boxes and was able to grab those for my sex-linked project.

Nope I do not see it and I zoomed in 4 times! Am I blind or was that a trick?
No crocus up here yet.... but there is red swellings at the ground level poking through in the rhubarb bed.

Rough night. My puppy prolapsed his rectum and had to be rushed to the vet. Poor little guy. On lots of meds now and needs to be watched closely

My Wheaten Marans/EE crosses are going to keep me guessing as to their gender. All 8 have pea combs, chipmunk coloration, feathered legs and muffs except for one that had all those but the chipmunk coloration. A couple have green legs. They're all feathering out uniform gray or brown. It'll be interesting!

Raked the yard, planted some fruit trees. Let the chickens out. Cleaned the house. Now I am ready for bed. Two more days until lock down. We never incubated eggs before, I hope all goes well. Our Silkie is setting on 4 eggs.

OK, today it happened; went to Soldan's and bought three EE chicks, supposedly pullets. Then to TSC and got six porcelain bantam chicks. Madness!! Again!! Next week the chicks come by mail; should have waited, but never mind... Already I think one of the EEs is a cockrel; what a surprise (NOT). They are cute, and it's only another nine chicks... I am managing to not call John Blehm about his current batch of chicks, so that must be good! Mary
