Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

PaisyQ, you might want to keep the flocks separate for a while to make sure it was just a random death - I would suggest 2 weeks. And I agree, sometimes chickens just die, and it is hard sometimes without expert help - or even with it - to know exactly why. If your birds seem healthy, eat well and are active, then you likely have nothing to worry about.

Amber links are sex links, you should have received just pullets.

Sorry to hear about the lost kids. I don't know how I missed the post but I didn't mean to sound insensitive by ignoring the event. It's very sad.

Mmmm, ground dent corn. I will be making some corn bread tonight to go with our chili that is brewing in the crock pot, to appease my now aching muscles. One must make such labor worth their while. Only one more bowl to grind (out of 3). Me thinks some maple syrup would go nicely with that bread. I'm thinking about growing popcorn this year rather than dent corn. The last time I tried to grow popcorn (at our last property) it didn't set any ears at all. Gauging by the success of the dent corn last year, it should be alright here.

Oh I am so going to grow my own popcorn this year - great idea!!!

So sorry to hear of todays / yesterday's losses. Rough year. :( (((((())))))) hugs

Stacy, is there anyone near who could give you a baby for your momma??? You will have to keep pushing food. So sorry. :(

Paisy q what were you using for the hen's meds??? Sorry you lost her like that. The humid days and cold nights of spring are sometimes hard on the hens.

I hope your mama goat is ok Stacey. For some reason watching a grieving animal is so much worse for me than a person grieving. Maybe because I feel less equipped to comfort them.

A busy week as I am working five in a row which isn't normal. Of course it has to be the nice week. I shot a coyote yesterday that was nosing around. Unfortunately I didn't find it because of the melting snow, so it was a wasted animal. However, it is one less that will be munching on my birds. I'm still holding a grudge over the 14 that were eaten last summer.

I think I will call it spring now that I can finally see bare spots in the field and yard. I also have my first broody girl. She is an proven good mom so I am tempted to put some eggs under her.

How would you have 'used' it? Something out there will eat it, so not a total waste.

So sorry for the losses.

It is suppose to be a beautiful almost 70 degree day out.

Everyone enjoy!!!

Yes, beautiful that was!

Well I took all my melon & gourd seeds out of the strawberry containers and relocated into the tried and true jugs. I did not see any real signs of sprouting, hopefully all will go well anyhow.
