Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I am trying multiple roos and many many hens. They all roost together at night but during the day and particularly when I turn them loose to free-roam they all seem to have their own areas and girls. Example is my cochin roo hangs out by the coop. I have four roos right now and have blende in another flock from a February hatch with a Welsummer roo and 12 pullets; he is taking care of them. I have another group growing that has a EE roo I am hopefully keeping and they are accepting of that group. I have one more group I am growing out that I won't be keeping any roos from so there will be hopefully several more pullets. I do have a lavender Ameracauna roo I am getting in June to sneak in so he will go with the last pullet group. I am thinking I am one at that point for this year! But I do have a 30' x 20' outside pen for them with lots of roosts and hiding places and I am going to expand that another 10' out. Their coop is actually running 6' wide down about 50' in the barn. If I have to I obviously have plenty of room to separate if I need to.

I also have a single male guinea that seems to put the roos in place when they are fighting too much - some weird dynamic but I'll take it!

Edited to add: I took two months to let the two older chicks go with the older ones, and one night the Feb chicks decided on their own to roost with the adults when they could have gone in their own space that is separate.

For the multiple rooster question, I just wanted to say that I have 7 roosters in my trailer coop flock with minimal skirmishes. My original 2yr EE rooster who is dominant, 3 of my 4 1yr old BCM roosters, a less than yr old Buff Orpington rooster, 1 yr old Speckled Sussex rooster, and a less than year old Spitzhauben Appenzeller rooster. They all roost in the same coop with the 70+ hens, so it can be done if they have nice temperaments and enough room.

I too have had as many as 10 adult roos in my coop without issue. There is peckin order and some squabbles breakout to make sure order is followed. But all get along great. I too have LOTS of hens in my coop. I have cochin bantams and silkies with a few odd balls in the mix (chocolate english orphingtons, and frizzles).

Check out my new nest boxs! Love them! Paid $20 each and they was in rough condition. But after a deep clean and new paint, they cleaned up nicely!

Man..those are pretty...you do good work ;)

So, do you NOT hate when you have a plan, lots to accomplish and, WHAM, something stops you dead in your tracks (literally)?
Today was get grass cut day. Walked the yard looking for big sticks, rocks, etc.; tractor is warmed up, iPod on. Not even ONE lap around the house...we have a dog lead....never use it...always wrapped around a porch post....but, NO, it's unwrapped, on ground and now WRAPPED under my tractor. Thought I'd be able to tip the thing myself, take care of business, and get on with it.
Nope. Trashed my back...tractor useless at the moment.

But, I DID just grill myself some nummy hot dogs :D

Hope everyone is enjoying the beautiful day....
