Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Finally signed up on all the proper threads for CS. It'll be our 3rd year going. Hope to bring HH. Bringing a dessert, selling Maple Syrup, bunnies, and maybe some tart cherry wine. Shooting pix again. Hope the lurkers that usually go are there. Good times.

Hall's Feed (as in Hall's sweet corn) over by Moomers by West high school. I pay 13.something for layer, and 14 or 15.something for 20% and 23% for my broilers and chicks (that's for a 50# bag). Super nice people, AND it's non-GMO feed. They're open Mondays and Thursdays from 9-5, other times by appointment. Shoot me a pm if you need the address. I'm sure I have one of the feed bag tags around here SOMEWHERE.

I'm starting to feel like I'm NEVER going to finish putting my garden in. Of course, it's mostly my own fault because I keep buying more and more stuff to put in, but STILL! Last week I put in 30 Roma plants. I have another 10 plants (2 each of some sort of slicer, cherry, yellow, heirloom, and early girls) that I need to find a place for. Today I put in 42 pepper plants. I have an 8ft fence of snap peas growing nicely, radishes, carrots, parsnips, and beets all in (though the last 3 haven't germinated yet.....AND I got them in a few weeks later than I wanted). Herbs (6 kinds i think). Potatoes. And I still have to put in all of my zucchini, yellow squash, watermelon, and cantaloupes in. Being a 'farmer' is a lot more work than people think!

I also got a bunch of my wintersown flowers in the ground today. Lupine, foxglove, california poppies, and whatever the flowers were that the kids picked out (calendula and baby's breath maybe?). My morning glories are coming up along the fence too! I'm trying to stay on top of the weeding and watering in that bed this year so that it looks NICE for a change! AND my friend is giving me all the daisies I want; they are clearing out a flower bed that's gotten pretty crazy so they can put something else in. WOO HOO! Free flowers!
Ya think

Hello.. New guy from Romeo, MI. Just wanted to introduce myself. Just getting started in the backyard chicken adventure. Have my Coop half built (Loosely using a design by member "Atholcoop" posted in the small coops section) and looking forward to getting some chickens.
Speaking of that. I will being looking for some Pullets in the next few weeks. I am wondering if anyone knows somewhere within an hour or two drive that might have pullets for sale? I would rather not start with new chicks for my first time. I am thinking the pullets may be easier. Possibly get some chicks next spring. Suggestions. I am looking for 4 hens. Docile breed that can handle MI Winters. Also looking strictly for layers.
Thanks
Jeff
