Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

You're running out of options Raz!!

The young ram settled in and has adopted Penny as his new momma....... though she is not having any of that trying to nurse behavior, she is tolerating him and I think he feels safer. Did I mention how nice and soft his wool is?
With all the singing he did on the way home.. I was thinking of calling him sweetgrass serenade..

I had 2 uggo hens sitting on eggs up in the goat shed loft 4 of them hatched, the rest had gotten cold and were duds. I pulled the hens and chicks down from the loft and they started showing the chicks how to eat right away. 3 of the chicks are NN (naked neck) and one is normal... if an uggo can be normal! Little button head uggo has also gone broody, on only one egg, so I pulled all the yokohama/Pheonix cross eggs and put them under her. One thing I can say about the uggos......... man are they BROODY birds!
Was invited to a small Pow Wow in Monroe yesterday. My friend Red Bird was dancing (Dk Blue shirt) It was fun and I love hearing the drums and singing. I felt invigorated when we left.

I tried fermenting once... first batch was great, second batch not so much. I decided not to continue and waste anymore food.

Lucky you. I used to go to the Ceremonials in New Mexico years back. I always felt so at home. Nothing like a pow wow to reconnect with the Earth Mother.

@tori8780 your ducklings at 6 wks are old enough now that they should be able to handle 65-70'F with no problem. Plus with ten (10) of them (omg what were you thinking?!? -LOL just kidding!) they will huddle together and be a cozy group. I would be trying to rig a light just for the overnights I think. If there is just no possible way for you to get electricity out there, you might be able to create some sort of passive solar heat collecting devices.

@farmer pete, @trefoil gave you an excellent description of FF... Here's the tread if you've got extra ?s or lots of time to read. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/739084/fermented-feeds/390#post_13699890 Jump right in and ask away. I too am no longer fermenting my feed, but my ducks absolutely loved it when I did.

So glad we were finally able to come to Chickenstock this year. It was nice to get to meet some of you in person.

Our 4 new additions are doing very well. We came home with a FBCM from @Wynette , a beautiful little Swedish Flower Hen and a Polish from @jlynnet (that luckily for us my DH picked out the Swedish first & opened the way for DD & I to do some chicken shopping. LOL.), DD picked out a lovely looking Delaware/Iowa Blue cross pullet from @Candy442 / @iamfivewire .

Thanks to all of you who arranged this. LOVED the guest speaker and glad my daughter was able to sit in & listen as well.

Oh, and I think the loudest rooster there might actually have been my daughter. LOL

Thank you everyone for letting a "Buckeye" attend CS! ....Thank you to those .... and one more, Grace, DD of @gmauerman ...who took one of my cockerels.

Thanks again!
You've inspired Grace to start her own flock, something I haven't been able to do. lol. She started her own BYC account, chickidy-love. In sure she'd love to hear from you.

How wonderful! I will be sure to send her a PM! THANKS AGAIN! I'm sure he will have a wonderful home. :)

I put my 14 broodys in the old guinea brooding pen trying to break them. So far it has not done anything but give me a pen of grouchy girls. It does mean I have fewer broken eggs. We have found the pigs love the cracked eggs so they aren't going to waste.
she is very pretty,.......I thought 5 broodys was a pain, 14 would really hurt my egg production

Hi everyone. Just checking in. Miss my girls so much but am very happy they're in good hands. Sorry I missed chicken stock! Anyone I'm Byron center/dorr area that wants to let me come and give your girls treats let me know. I need a chicken fix! Also I could chicken sit for anyone in those areas that need it. Pretty experienced and am kinda missing chicken poo on the bottom of my shoes.
Hope everyone is doing good and enjoying summer so far!
Lisa (will be someday soon)and the girls.
Hi Lisa, missed you, hope things are going well and you can get chicks again soon

I always thought it weird that right after lunch, so many people pack up and leave the event. Why? I propose that next year, that everyone brings a lawn chair and we can all sit in a circle and just talk and get to know one another. Had a great time with the people that stayed behind to talk. We have the park till 3. Let's get our money's worth!!

With this being my first year, I wasn't sure what to expect, but I really enjoyed myself! I like the idea of sitting together and chatting since I was trying so hard to put names and usernames together while trying to nab an EE and making sure all my stuff was in good hands.
did not mean to leave out all those that organized the web sign up's for CS, A big THANK YOU to all of you also as with out the start there can not be a finish

Last night I am putting birds away for the night when I realize I have been a bad chicken mama. I have no idea how many days have gone by that I have not seen Perry, a little blue Polish, Silkie cross. I was worried but she has stashed eggs and disappeared before. So I found her under DH's snowplow sitting cozy on a dozen eggs all viable. Obviously I have missed her more than a few days. So I moved her and eggs to a carrier. She may have some crazy looking chicks as she's been seeing both a Showgirl and Phoenix rooster.

I was introduced to a few Polish birds at CS -- those mix chicks you have are going to be ADORABLE & absolutely crazy-feathered!!!!

No signs of eggs here yet; my silver-laced started squatting a week ago. But OH DO THEY HONK.

They're coop is backed up against the side of the house, and if I even open a window, they all start honking as if treats are going to fall from the sky! I'm hoping its a phase or maybe I'll have to give them less treats. Rainy day here on Lake Michigan, so trying to get a bit of work done inside -- we needed the rain!
