Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

All I can say is OMG! I may be getting another goat - a NG doe, oh no... I'm already too busy. Who wants to come out and do some building, lol!

Oh yeah, the chickens are doing great as chickens go. Moved the new meaties outside today.
Will have to check with you in the spring... I may be looking for a NG doeling! I should sell my buck and get a reg NG buck too.. so keep me in mind come spring! I love the NG, they're a nice manageable size. My buckling may only be 10% LaMancha,,, but he is pretty big compared to my NG doe.

We have everything on hold until we find out what is going to happen with the property next to us. If we can get it we will, if not then we'll be putting up a pole barn. As much as I'd love to put up a barn like yours John, I think we'll stick with a standard pole barn. We can get a larger building that way...and we can also afford to put up fencing along the rest of the property. DH is insisting that we build it ourselves. but it's taken us all summer to just do the doors on the goat house.... there is no way we can build one, with him traveling all the time, and me doing everything while he's gone... it's not gonna happen. And.......... I want it done, not half done, it must be done done!

I've been trying to convert a wood shipping crate into a small hunting blind... it's not pretty, and will probably just be good for this season, but hey, it'll be dry and out of the wind, and I'm all for that!

Sage went with me to the mill on Saturday... she has been wonderful... slept all night in her crate. Pretty good about going outside, though she's gone inside a few times. Once I figure out her pattern etc.. I don't think it will be long and she'll be house broke. Gino, likes her, Bella not so much, she just tries to avoid the pup. DH's boss (just him and DH in an office) said he can bring her in to work with him if we need to. Today she's out in her own kennel run, I think she'll be fine, just hate leaving her alone so quickly. At least she can move inside or outside freely and not in a crate all day.

Stacy, hopefully your bird is just molting and she's ok.

My DH got a new toy this weekend. A small 4 wheel drive tractor with bucket. I have had chickens for several years now and have never had help in coop cleaning. Yesterday both my son and DH helped me and shoveled all the bedding into the bucket and took it to a section of the garden that is done this year. Then they wanted to know what else I needed. So I had them bring a scoop of sand up to put in my run and in between the coop. They still wanted more chores but I didn't have anything else. I wasn't terribly excited about the tractor but it actually may make things easier for me, at least while it's still a toy and not yet work.
You'll be surprised at just how handy having a tractor with a front loader bucket is. we used to have one here at the farm and I was a little irked with the judge with him giving it to dad, but it did allow for mom to keep the farm in the separation. At least dad did do some of the overhauling it needed to have done on it. Its pretty much just sitting in the garage now over at his brother's place, and occasionally gets out to play with a few minor things with it.

That front end loader will prove to be handy come winter, especially if its anything like it was like last winter.

Tap enjoy the help while you can and learn to use it like 1mutt said, it is fun
Love the puppy very sweet!!

for you that have horses, what is PDZ? is it the same as DE?

canning question, do you take your rings off? don't remember my mom doing that??

Yahoo on the doe! So DS was drooling over the Flemish Giants at the fair Saturday night. We had to go out there to pick up our chickens to bring them home. Well, the bunnies & chickie-doodles are all in the same barn. He came running up to me "mom, mom! They have some of those huge bunnies here!". LOL. So we went together & looked at them. I told him, "Could you imagine having to take care of such large bunnies?" He said "I know... " but was all grin from ear to ear so I'm not sure if the message sank in.

What all are you building for the doe? Just a shelter, or fencing in more area, or what? DH is super busy here too & somewhere in there he needs to find time to build a decent rabbit hutch before winter! Or so he keeps telling me. My guess is that the current set up will just be moved to inside the barn for the winter.

Flemish Giants! Flemish Giants! You need some next spring!

I built a new pen already attached to the existing one. This is to keep Percy and Coleman in (the intact and not so intact boys). The does will all be in the larger pen. I have to start a new house for the bucks this week.

Yeah def will keep you in mind. Gotta get hot on the new digs though or they are all sleeping together, lol!

My buddy down the road lost his horse barn last winter (snow load). It was 30+ years old built from ash sawed on the property but the design was a tad sketchy. Anyway, he and his Dad started a new pole barn early spring. I help when I can. It's just about ready for metal. Working on days off is a big pain but there ya go...Even though mine has a traditional flair I like his layout better for ease of use. Basically the same square footage as a two story but laid out on a larger footprint. He has a main section for tractor and implements, etc. and another section for the horses. If he hired a crew to do it it would have been done in April after we razed the old structure. Doing it piecemeal and here we are almost October. The savings outweigh the timeliness? Maybe not.

Sage is gorgeous. I must wait for a new puppy - I must.

Do any of you use ivermectin paste to worm your chickens and ducks if so how do you dose it?
I do not ,I use the pour on but if you go to the health section they will know. If I remember correctly it is a pea size for standard hen fuzzy might have doses in her siggy??

this is a good commentary on bees.... we all can make a difference.
very good, some times I get frustrated because I can not tame my flower garden, then I remind my self how much the bees and butterflys enjoy it and how much I enjoy them
