My pullet is acting very strange, laid her first egg the day before yesterday. All day she has been in and out of the nesting box, making weird noises. No egg. She seems bitter lol. Is she sad i took her egg?

So, after going to TSC to get de-miting supplies, more pine shavings, etc., I went to Walmart to pick up my deer tags.

I knew that the DNR had started some new stuff this year; needing a base tag/license ($11) plus your combo ($40) and then your tags ($20 each). I picked up 4 tags & it set me back $130!!!! Tags went up 33% from last year (from $15 to $20). Granted, since I haven't had to buy beef in 5 years, this is still a cheaper alternative (plus I know what him eating) but really caught me off guard!

And they wonder why there are fewer hunters out there almost every year. Fees are getting rather ridiculous...

They need the extra money so they can go raid small hog farms and kill "feral" pigs.

They needs to leave farmers alone. Most of our hunters around here are unemployed, how they gonna pay that increase to put food on the table? This is getting ridiculous all the way around.

There's not less hunters in the woods...
There's less licensed hunters in the woods.
Poaching has sky rocketed. I see it big time and know lots of folks who don't even bother with licenses and take 6+ deer a yr to sell.

LOL! Pullets can be very silly when they first start to lay! I'll bet she lays another egg today. One of mine in particular (Kiko, Silver Laced Wyandotte) got almost frantic when she first started laying this spring--she'd rush all about, in and out of the nest boxes, and also trying out other less desirable locations for a bit (floor of the coop, underneath the raised broody cage, on the poop board

), all the time squawking and complaining and unable to settle for more than a minute or two. This could go on for a few hours. Then finally when she did lay, the egg would come out quickly in the last place she'd paused. She's a bit calmer now. but still a little "tightly wound". The other end of the spectrum are the nice calm hens who will go into the nest box and settle in and kind of go into an "egg trance" for the duration--they'll roll the fake wood eggs under them, maybe check on those once or twice, occasionally rearrange a stray wood shaving to correct the feng shui of the nest box, but mostly they gaze off into space and... wait. Yeah, Kiko don't play that.

Hah, you were right on.. after many hours of her being odd she laid. I am so new to chickens! I never knew birds could be so complex and adorable.
