Thanks Mary. Got the dust & face mask...decided to try that before going with ivermectin...
If you have a large flock go with the ivomec. Catch them when they are roosting and just drip it on.
What kind of mites are your fighting? They both work well on Northern Fowl mites but you have to repeat as more hatch. When I was fighting them I cleaned out the coop and went over it with a shop vac and then scrubbed it. If you don't want them crawling on you make sure to Vaseline your wrists.

I am so tired of wet. It is either raining or fog or just so much dew it never dries. My mold allergies are not having fun this fall and fungus is taking over the yard. The rest of the week looks like the same. I do not like fall but a few nice days sure would be appreciated.

Pretty sure it's chicken mites. Nothing on the girls when you search. Only reason I found them is when broody girl Maia got out of the nest box. Went to add straw & saw VERY tiny creepy crawlies.

Girls feathers have liked funny, but there has been over-mating & moulting going on.. so, after grabbing a few & looking them over, figured that was the prob.

Think I am going to go with the ivermectin...and clean, scrub & dust the coop...

So much for hunting ...

So, after going to TSC to get de-miting supplies, more pine shavings, etc., I went to Walmart to pick up my deer tags.

I knew that the DNR had started some new stuff this year; needing a base tag/license ($11) plus your combo ($40) and then your tags ($20 each). I picked up 4 tags & it set me back $130!!!! Tags went up 33% from last year (from $15 to $20). Granted, since I haven't had to buy beef in 5 years, this is still a cheaper alternative (plus I know what him eating) but really caught me off guard!
Yeah, cuhhhrazzy huh! I got the combo fish/hunt . The only benefit I see is I only have one piece of paper to lose instead of three, lol!

Where I live the doe is by lottery again so I had to apply. I can get one in bow, and one during gun on my land. Better see some bucks!

Guess I'm pretty lucky here in Livingston County...think I can get like 5 doe take per DAY for my own private land! Good luck!

I get emails from the DNR & knew that we had to get the base license regardless of whether you hunt small game...I forget where they said the money was going, other than I remember thinking "ok, that seems like an good use"...

I feel kinda bad. The youngster was here the other evening..& no mama. At first thought maybe she was at the edge of the woods watching; but, no. Poor little thing walked around my yard,,hopped over to the neighbors & just kept looking around looking totally lost. Think mom was either taken during the youth hunt/early antlerless weekend or maybe a car.
I did have 3 perfect does in my front yard yesterday morn, hope they figure out that they need to be in the backyard soon ;)

We got our second cuckoo maran egg today! We have 2 and got the first egg on Tuesday. I was wondering, is it normal when they first start to lay that the egg can be so small? Or is this something I should be concerned about? The one on the right was from Tuesday and the one on the left is from today. We are not 100% sure if it was the same chicken who laid both or if this is one from each. Thanks

Oh, yeah...those cute little pullet eggs are totally normal. It's probably from the other one; but early on I had some vary in size; just like they do now...everywhere from large to ridiculously jumbo! One of my first from last year. Can't find the pic of one of my smallest ever..it was the size of a quarter...so cute,

The size of a quarter? Wow, thanks!

Is anyone with bantam Cochin's of good quality gonna be at the show in birch run next weekend? I'm looking to add some nice hens/pullets to my flock to help better my type.

Looking for any color as type is #1. Let me know if ya have any or are coming. I'm even interested in eggs too.

Thanks so much and can't wait to go!
