I actually posted - then erased cause my big mouth gets me in trouble... but I would act all interested in their "art" (lol) and act like I sided with them.. found out where they got it from... take a photo then send it to the neighbor they stole it from. Let the neighbor address the theft and trespassing. And then friend or no... I would sever ties cause I won't associate with people like that... But that's just me and my opinion!

I understand that he is currently not violating any law with the placement of his tree stand. However, given the placement of the stand (affixed to the tree facing our property), the amount of heavy growth adjacent to the tree with the stand which would make it unfeasible to shoot in any other direction, and the proximity to the deer herd's bedding area, the scale of intent seems to tip in favor of him planning to shoot toward our pasture.

As I stated before, I have no issue with hunting. I do not believe for one moment that I own the deer on my property - if they move off my land, he is welcome to them. What I do have issue with is the idea of someone who may choose to hunt land on which they do not have permission, in particular when that land is actively being used by the homeowner. This person has no clue as to whether my husband, son or someone else is currently hunting this land. Perhaps other may disagree with me, but I don't personally feel that being on my land, conducting my farming activities as I do on a regular basis, could be or should be construed as disrupting a hunt. We are going to look into a wildlife cam, not an expense that I was planning to make right now :-( I think the key to bear in mind is that this is not just some unused wooded area, this is our open pasture which contains our chicken coop, rabbitry, mowed cross country trails that my kids and dog actively run (yes, even at dusk). It is only by random chance that we do not currently have goats and a horse in the pasture. I am not looking to keep anyone from getting their deer, we are just not interested in strangers with weapons being on land that we are actively using for other purposes. I guess I would just like him to respect the fact that he asked and was told "no".

If he is tree hunting he wouldn't be on your land with a gun.. however, shooting in your direction is certainly an issue and that is understandable. So, my suggestion would be to go talk to him face to face (try to catch him leaving the stand or at his vehicle, not during prime time or he will be resistant and it would not help the situation. Let him know your concerns about shooting toward your property... that you don't want him to set foot on your land without permission. And if he does ask permission, you do have the right to ask him to leave his weapon in his vehicle or on his side of the property if he needs to retrieve game, go with him if it helps. Unfortunately,, even if he shot the deer on his side.. chances are it will come on to your land (murphy's law).

I'm not telling you what to do on your land, the choice to let him retrieve it is yours, but he may call the DNR to help him retrieve it. You legally would have no right to the deer and it would be unethical to let it rot (and attract predators to your livestock).

Now if the guy is a jerk, feel free to contact the DNR yourself and file a complaint if you catch him trespassing or gives you other issues. Make sure that you are proactive about it, and don't go out of your way to cut wood or do things at key hours on purpose or he has the right to go after you for harassment. But try to talk to him yourself first... sometimes it's just a misunderstanding.

Yeah, I know...those thoughts have toured my mind also....but I wouldn't 'turn them in'..... it's their karma to burn.
We are part of a big group, so not associating is complicated.

Can't help without info. I can't see him so i have to know as much detail as possible. Also if you haven't i strongly recommend posting this on the emergency part of the forum.ok so here goes:
How old? What is his diet? How long has this been going on? Can he hit an individual pellet with his beak? Does it seem like he is walking funny or just dizzy? What kind of heater is in the house? Is his crop swollen when he wakes up? Put your ear to his back: is his breathing conjested? Are his eye pupils normal? Temperature? Pale comb? How do his poops look? Any diarrhea or off colors?

Look at all these things carefully and write back as many of the answers as you can. It will help me narrow down my ideas. If you treat the wrong thing you could lise your chance to fix it so it is very important to give him this exam for me. I am not a dr so that is why i recomment the emergency section in case someone else is more skilled.
