Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Well other than still needing to find a home for my rhode island roo my ladies finally gave us our first egg out of this flock! More than a little happy about that as its my first time having chickens.

Even just turning a small piece on a lathe can make a nice lamp. When an ash tree blew down on mom & dad's in the 80's I made a lamp for my daughter.
A lathe is the one piece of equipment that I do not have. Well, that and a Wood-Mizer

I have a few hickory logs that I have been hanging on to. Too nice to just cut for firewood but too big to resaw on the bandsaw.

lol first egg. And @chickwhispers one roo down one to go. Trefoil was nice enough to take the EE from me.

Congratulations. It looks like a nice sized one too. I forgot to ask the roosters' name so he's now Albert and anxiously waiting for his quarantine to be over.

RaZ, Harbor Freight has some usable wood lathes that are fairly inexpensive. They have the swing-out head stocks that allow large bowl turning. When I bought my Low-End cheap lathe I paid more than the nicer quality (albeit mass produced) ones cost today. I learned in HS on real nice units, but, what I also learned was the tools are more important than lathe as long as the head bearings are sound. I also learned how to turn common tool steel into shaped tools for different uses.

Toot is the most daring of everyone and leaves her little duck tracks everywhere.

The turkey doesn't mind the snow, the guineas just parade around or fly everywhere.

Normally they are not in the trees but have decided it's better than the ground now. My muscles had forgotten shoveling and have had a reminder of what's ahead.

Oh gosh!! I don't want to see all that stuff on the ground!!! Nothing down here, yet. Am NOT looking forward to winter. What happened to Fall? What, it was like 2 days long and then the cold wet weather came in....
