Saving up eggs and almost have about 100!
Getting ready to do a fertility trial run this weekend. I have lots of new and young birds. Of course, if I have a good hatch, I'm gonna keep a few to replace the birds I lost this year and cover the retired hens who don't lay anymore. The the rest will be sold off in pairs and trios and like always, just boys.
I have pure bred bearded silkies
Millie/calico Cochin's
Mottled Cochin's
And frizzles.
I can't wait to turn that bator on and get it warmed up this weekend. Of course ONLY chicken people know that warm excited feeling about eggs and chicks and the suspence of hatching that normal people don't understand.
Wish me luck!!!
that's cool cant wait for the chicks...they are cool when they first start chirping...yepper...I guess that's you new years gift to yourself...im excited for you...well have a wonderful Christmas everyone...
Between all of the eggs Mom has used today for cooking assorted goodies like her tea rings, deviled eggs and other stuff, and a few dozen that I had gifted out to a few people, I'm now down to 2 eggs right now, and they were both from batch of five I collected this morning.
No snow here, sounds like it finally quit raining. I am working the holiday too, cows still make milk and we are busy so... always been a sucker for OT None of my immediate family is celebrating this year except for the bit for the kids, so not missing anything. I did decorate a little though
Glad to hear your surgery is finally done and you are mending, Raz! I bet you will feel much improved when it is fully healed.
I took the bandages off this morning. There is a good bit of bruising and I'm pretty sore. Still, there were chores to be done for the critters and firewood laid in. It just took longer to do but I'm feeling it now. I think I'll take a pain med a little early. I'd rather have a beer.
Don't overdo, RaZ, or you'll land back in hospital. Know from experience. Do as little as possible and maybe get someone to help you.
Hope everyone had a great Christmas. We celebrated yesterday and today it's so peaceful. We're just laying around watching TV with my son that came in from Chicago!
Aye, take it easy as best you can. Some people do bounce back more quickly than others.
Christmas for me turned out to be a little more sad than I expected. A friend's service dog died from surgery complications. They just couldn't stop the bleeding during surgery, too fast to even transfuse him I think. It won't being him back, but I am paying an artist I love and trust to make a portrait of him. She is the type of artist I can just ask her to let her artistic talent run free, and she'll produce something spectacular (well, most artists always produce something spectacular, but most clients give a little more direction than I do). That is because I don't know what size/background/poses is best, but I am sure once she looks at the reference pictures, she'll know what will capture him best.
