It's like trying to get the weather report from different channels. You get different stories. There are better sites than the USDA. I'll have to look them up when I get a few minutes free. Same as for replying to your PM.So I just got done typing my Zip Code into the USDA site, it says I am Zine 6A (!) I thought I was Z5 (!) When did it change? RaZ, PM sent, would like to chat seeds with ya again this year.
Well I'm not sure exactly that level heads prevailed. The committee chair began by claiming that the rules were basically the same as they have always been but the change was just to clarify the wording. Trouble is that the wording was even more confusing and vague. The idea that a fence around all sides of the property was reworded to say that a flight defection barrier is needed between the hive opening and line of sight with the affected neighbor. The 200 foot language is still there and it is still muddy enough that I'm sure someone will end up in court over it.hoping that level heads will prevail today regarding bees in GAAMPS..
Does "Toughen up, buttercup" qualify as kind and encouraging? The kind words and encouragement offered me on this thread, and the personal messages offering help speaks volumes for the quality of people that this thread attracts. Thanks to all.
Welcome to Mi BYC,,,, I'm sure you will find some one to help with chicks here.Hi everyone!
So the Missus and I are ready to make the plunge this year, so we're looking to get our first chicks. Can anyone recommend a hatchery, breeder, or any other resource to get a small starter flock in Michigan? We're hoping for 3-4 Barred Rocks and 3-4 Rhode Island Reds for a first go, but most resources I'm finding require a minimum purchase of 15+ birds.
We're in Rose Township (Oakland County) so if anyone knows of local breeder, we'd be more than willing to just drive over and pick up the chicks if necessary.
Thanks!
OOOOOHHH! *hand raised* over here, would love those. I hope you can make it mutts. I will be so ready for those.I may bring some chicks to Chickenstock if I am able to make it - they will be an Arkansas Blue roo over one AB hen and several Cream Legbars (blue egglayers), and some brown egg hens (they will produce various shades of Olive Eggers). If I do hatch, the chicks will be vaccinated for Mareks as well.
Opa, I hope you will be able to come this year![]()
Oh man, that hellcat. its a **** shame they can't have them running inside of the building. I bet that bad mamba-jamba throwback would shake the earth.Anything cool? I would love to get my hands on a hellcat!
glambka, those are gorgeous eggs. I have a friend who works with resin and am getting excited to work with it too. I have a ton of mismatched 1"x2" slate tiles leftover from my bathroom renovation. I am thinking of turning them into pendants for jewelry. The resin makes them look so sleek.FROM OPA:

Sam, I am a microbiologist (yes with an infected dog bite, duh) and I can tell you that since the PICC line will be covered up totally, and you can wind the tubing up and put it in a plastic Baggie and tape it to your arm, the chance of infection from your chickens would likely only come from unwashed hands, which I know you would be extra careful about. I'd ask your doc before giving up all your birds...unless of course you just feel like @&$! Which is also entirelypossible.![]()
Thanks for all the kind words about my recovery...someone asked why I waited so long...for the bite to become infected or to log back into BYC??? Not sure which, but the bite looked fine until the morning of the emergency surgery...then within 4 hours the redness and swelling moved from my wrist to above my elbow. Little stinker bugs moved fast. I told the ER doc not to put any stitches in...you NEVER stitch a dog bite because of the deep tissue infections that can occur...but would she listen??? Nooooooo. I should have gone home and took them out myself, but it was awful painful at that point.
Anyway, here's a pic of the glazed eggs...they don't show up real well in pictures but look fabulous in person. You can see the reflection on the eggs, that's not from a flash.
And I'm starting to look for turkey eggs again, anyone has any infertiles,or ones you just don't need, PLEASE PM me!!]
