I thought they got rid of the purchase permits for pistols (if you buy from ffl dealers). Did it change again?

I'm with you, I thought they did away with the purchase permits about 3 years ago for pistols.

You can still find 22 ammo at reputable gun stores but the prices are on the high side. If all you are going to use this gun for is raccoons in your barn, I would personally go with a rifle they are far more accurate. You don't want to be shooting up your barn. Another plus with a rifle is, If the animal is in a live trap the barrel of the rifle will fit between the bars making it easier for a merciful kill. I have never accidentally wounded an animal I needed to put down and I never want to.

nope...i can tell you from experience....they did....not.....having a pistol without a license will get you a two year minimum prison felony term and then you will plea down to a 90 day misdemeanor of purchase pistol with out a license....trust me...then the 5 grand for a lawyer and then time served in jail...i moved over from wisconsin with some and because i didnt have them registered in michigan even tho i just moved here... i got charged....booooo for the justice system. and a second person who served in the military had her pistol reg in florida and she moved up and they got her on that same charge...expect she went in debt alot more...talking 60k plus...lost everything....all just to owe ten thousand more and the charges droped and the gun confiscated....funny world how we live in.....i have law enforcement in my background...but they never cared...all because i moved to a small town....should have stayed in wisconsin if you ask me....hope this helps.....AND GET THAT PERMIT...DONT THINK OTHERWISE...

Hello my Michigan friends! I have a question about coops. I have hired a professional builder to build me a permanent goose coop under my deck(My deck is 15' high. It will be completely predator proof with electricity and running water. My question is, what to put on the floor? I have been doing pine shavings all winter and cleaning it out have been very hard. Large garbage bags of wet, poopy shavings every day. Now I know there is so much because they are in their all day, even when I try to get them out to clean it, they are trying to get back in because they hate the cold. I don't like straw, it isn't very absorbent, so, what do you recommend?

Also, do I build the structure on a cement slab, or right on the ground? I want a big coop, with benches in there to go in and sit with them and visit, especially in the winter.

If you can,put a cement floor with a drain in it and then install small hole hardware cloth over it, with a couple of inches between with access to clear out the drain. Protect the drain from being able to suck down bedding that would clog it. Just bed in a portion of the coop and keep their food & water away from the bedding. This should cut down on your having to constantly replace the bedding if you stir it up frequently. The bedding shouldn't get so wet up off the cement with air circulating around it and the small hole hardware cloth shouldn't be hard on the geeses' feet. And in the summer for a good cleanout you will be able to hose off the cement. For bedding, if you use the hardware cloth idea, I would put a good layer of straw with shavings on top, the straw will keep the shavings from falling through the wire and as you stir it up the shavings should keep the straw drier. Lots of windows so it isn't dark in the coop.

I finally have hopes of spring. The Arctic Buntings are starting to group up and I've had a House Sparrow around the chicken yard the past two mornings, even though it was -20 again today.

Opa when do you do your apple tree pruning? I figure I'm a few weeks behind you.

This week Odin has gone to work with me. He has been a popular guy. Here he is taking a quick nap. Kid's are so funny and really know so little about chickens. Here are a few things I heard: he isn't a chicken like we eat, they are different, Are roosters really boys?, do roosters poop?, can he fly? What is crowing? I did have one young man who explained incubation perfectly.

Yes. And I now have her with my lavender Amerucana rooster so I know who the dad is Doing a test hatch now for fertility.
