Hello Neighbor!! We had our Sap Moon last night and the sugar snow's should make the sap run good. i don't know if Trexroo plans on tapping any trees this year but i want sugar on snow!Good morning from Barton City!
Seems to be about time for my annual spring check-in. Still have 8 hens and one roo. (no more guineas or ducks). The ladies are getting on up there, about 4 maybe this spring? The doms and dark cornish are still laying well but the 2 Isa Brown/Golden Comets are very infrequent. Perhaps they are protesting winter? Still plenty of snow on the ground though it's looking like temps will finally be starting to rise this weekend. I am SO looking forward to spring, though really, I shouldn't complain as this winter was way milder than 2013/14!
And as a sign of spring, I just tapped the maple tree next to the coop. If the sap starts flowing well it ought to be a really good sign spring is on the way.
They might....but chickens can also totally tear up a garden if not fenced out of it.
You are gonna have to tell me what the heck a sap moon is, we saw a bright moon last night, but that's all I know. This is the first time we've ever tried this. I bought one traditional bucket and tap, DH started reading up on it and now he's made 4 homemade taps with vinyl hoses down to plastic jugs and I've got 10 more taps in the mail. He sort of went to town making my little experiment into a 'big deal" but he hasn't run across mention of a sap moon either.Hello Neighbor!!
