Good morning from Barton City!

Seems to be about time for my annual spring check-in. Still have 8 hens and one roo. (no more guineas or ducks). The ladies are getting on up there, about 4 maybe this spring? The doms and dark cornish are still laying well but the 2 Isa Brown/Golden Comets are very infrequent. Perhaps they are protesting winter? Still plenty of snow on the ground though it's looking like temps will finally be starting to rise this weekend. I am SO looking forward to spring, though really, I shouldn't complain as this winter was way milder than 2013/14!

And as a sign of spring, I just tapped the maple tree next to the coop. If the sap starts flowing well it ought to be a really good sign spring is on the way.
Hello Neighbor!! We had our Sap Moon last night and the sugar snow's should make the sap run good. i don't know if Trexroo plans on tapping any trees this year but i want sugar on snow!

They might....but chickens can also totally tear up a garden if not fenced out of it.

this is so true.....I have lost many a raised bed to the little terrors that got out of the coop/run I have a fort Knox chicken run not to keep predators out but to keep the chickens in of course I guess its not nice of me to put their coop right next to my huge garden....and the whole "they eat the weeds" thing is hog wash.....they eat the plants you are growing for food and don't touch the weeds...until after they have totally destroyed all the other plants then they eat the weeds.....I do like to use a couple in a small movable coop run though I place them over the ant hills in my yard leave them there during the day and they tend to eat those pretty good....but don't leave them more than a day or to....

oh....well i had my cpl and have law enforcement background....and they didnt care when i moved here....and i got charged and pleaded down and went to jail for a gun that i legally got from another law enforcement officer...they were more concerned that i brought it over here even tho it was legal and didnt register it with them right away. they took my cpl as well during this whole event...and now i cant even buy a gun because of the charge unless its from someone on the streets....just saying...unless you have been thru it you never no what a guy in a badge with a headache can do to you...you think that was bad....i got charged with pepperspray...yes this is not a typo...a felony dangerous weapon charge...totally different incident...dropped down to a misdemeanor dangerous weapon charge and 17k later and a night in jail...worst part it was a small can of pepperspray i bought at jays sporting goods...you should hear the recorded phone call from jays rep....that was interesting...all he kept saying is well if this wasnt a recorded conversation....and just beat around the bush...so remember that when your carrying a can of spray with you....and i have been trained by the state of wisconsin to carry just about anything you can think of....if i can get charged..then a regular civilian can get charged...and to top it off with the gun...i called the sheriff after i had a incident with someone trying to rob the house...and he knew about the guns...gave me permission to carry open in his streets..on a recorded convo right from his phone at the sheriffs office and then a year later took the gun and charged me...talk about politics/justice at its finest...well just keep going now im on a roll....how about this one...i pull into the driveway of the girl i was seeing and some dude walks out with a bat and starts hitting my car...i took several pics of him doing this...called 911 cops showed up showed the pics to the cops and they go....what do you want me to do about it....wow...and the guy was on felony probation...he said they couldnt do anything about it because it didnt happen on the streets it happened on private property....people think they know about guns/laws when in reality a cop can bend any law take whatever they want from you and leave you in the hot seat..or hows this one...my girls driving without me parks the car in a parking lot and goes into a store to buy stuff.....she comes out gets in her car and a guy runs his truck into her parked car...drives off she gets out and yells the cops show up then the person with the truck shows up....the cops say they cant do anything because it was on private property and not on the streets....the guy ran into a parked car...they never gave him a breathalizer test nothing...no police write up ..nothing...michigan is the worst state for dirty police...i could go way further into some things but...that would be for coversation on the phone or face to face...cause you wouldnt believe it if i wrote it...you probably arnt believing any of this that im writing in the first place...but lets just say...i have four recommendations from the secretary of wisconsin for saving peoples lives....clean record....moved to michigan...not even a year later with a cpl...and get charged with peperspray one incident and a legit gun on the other...both of them are on my record...sorry for venting...but i have spent close to 60k on lawyers lost my 401k all because of small town politics...and i used to have respect for people with a badge...not in michigan i dont...

You are gonna have to tell me what the heck a sap moon is, we saw a bright moon last night, but that's all I know. This is the first time we've ever tried this. I bought one traditional bucket and tap, DH started reading up on it and now he's made 4 homemade taps with vinyl hoses down to plastic jugs and I've got 10 more taps in the mail. He sort of went to town making my little experiment into a 'big deal" but he hasn't run across mention of a sap moon either.

I don't mind you venting, I totally get that there are dirty cops, sounds like you ran into a heck of a bad bunch. what year did you actually move here and have all this happen? Heck, I think I would have found a way to move back to Wisconsin!

Sap Moon and Sugar Snow are old terms like 1800s early 1900s....Here is an copy and past of the names for the full moon last night

March - Worm Moon
The last full moon of the winter season in March, is also known as the Lenten Moon, the Crow Moon to signify the crows that appear at the end of winter, and Sap Moon to mark the time for harvesting maple syrup from maple tree saps. It is also known as the Worm Moon because of the earthworms that come out at the end of winter and herald the coming of spring.

Link to the site, i actually just found the site and its interesting, has all the names of the monthly full moons for the year.
