Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Hi, I just want to know how to join this group. I am new to backyard Chickens. I am from Southern Michigan and we just started our chicken flock last week.
You just did. Welcome!

I usually find most comercials inane, and some insult one's intelligence. However, once it a while one comes along that is quite amusing. The free ranging chickens qualifies as does the Android commercial "Friends forever" using the Roger Miller song Oo de lally.
This one makes me smile too. Just because we are all different doesn't mean we can't get along. I wish we could get that through our thick skulls.
Good morning, all.

That is a very nice looking batch of syrup. I should post a photo of our haul so far. It's also about a gallon's worth. Hoping to get a good flow starting today, been too dang cold up here lately!

It is apparently extremely hard to find anyone with a leghorn rooster let alone a white one. I guess they really do all go in the stew pot. Found someone with eggs so might have to go that route, just means no pures until next year :(

Hope everyone had a good weekend!!!

I know someone with white leghorn bantam roosters. Not sure if they would part with any.

A sugar maple will have Brown Sharp tipped buds. A Norway maple will have more of a blunt green or reddish purple bud. Hope this helps.
@myfarm4579 can you tell what kind of maple this is from the buds?
...and what that bug is trying to eat them? Found one of those in the tap jug too.
What ever maple the tree is, it is gushing sap today....was overflowing this morning and almost half full again now.

I may be wrong but looks like a Norway maple bud to me. The easiest way to identify a sugar maple is clear sap in the "petiole" aka stem. It attaches to the leaf blade. A Norway will have white sap in the stem. Not sure what kind of bug ya got there though.

I think it's actually a silver maple...will have to get (or wait for)a leaf to be sure.
