South Central Michiganders... I have a large Buff Orpington rooster, 1 year old, that I have to get rid of. He's just too big for the girls for the space they are all in. He's pulled near every feather out of each of their backs. I've had to separate him, and I don't want him in a crate any longer than necessary.

So, he is free to anyone in the Kalamazoo area, just PM me. As a last resort, he will need to be processed, but I don't know anyone around the area that will butcher for me (I just can't do it).

I wish I lived closer to you! I would love to have him. (I would need to build him a bachelor pad first.

I have 4 buffs I could breed him to. Can you trim his nails and put saddles on the girls? I hope you don't have to process him.

He's such a good boy too. I hold him a lot and he doesn't mind being pet once he's caught. . I don't know how to trim, and I doubt it would help. I have saddles on some and it hasn't worked. He's just a big rooster and I such close quarters, he's on them all the time.

You can use clippers, like for a dog. And just like a dog or cat, stop at the blood line. If you bleed it, just put on some cornstarch, flour or blood stop powder. You can even use a file or sandpaper to dull the rough edges.

They make bits to controle his bite with as well. I'm not exactly advocating them, but as an alternative......Maby even peepers, I have a male who killed a female sporting a set now, sure took the hostility out of his nature.....

Yes, idk anything about those though. I was also thinking, let the girls out for most of the day w/o him so that he only has a short time to mate them in the morning and evening. (Or let him out, keep them in, alternating).

:-/ After 2 years of the dogs being so good and ignoring the chickens, they got a few today. :-/ Not sure what set it off, but I had 2 kids run in and tell me the dogs were trying to eat chickens. I am down to 15. I had 18... IDK of anyplace that will butcher them now with so few. Any thoughts? These are my meat birds. They are almost done feathering out. I think they are 4 weeks? Should I just quickly get some more and grow them and have them done with this batch. So one done a little older and the rest a little soon?

This weekend a fence goes up with some wire buried as well as paver stones on top to prevent digging. The dogs are stuck on a tie out for potty time out front (not all the time, just to potty). They can run out back when the birds go to bed at 7pm.

In other news, I have some eggs in several classrooms. Chickens in 2 and quail eggs in one. The egg turner in the Quail classroom stopped working 2 days in.:-/ Don't see where I can get one local. So the teacher is turning them by hand. I was also given pheasant eggs! If I get them to hatch, anyone want pheasant? I am in a township and I don't think I can get away with keeping those until they mature.

No clue! I picked up the quail eggs and was also given a dozen and a half (or so. I didn't count) pheasant eggs. He said nothing else besides they were given to him by another. He had no time to hatch them, but were told they were fertile.

I assume red goldens, but am not sure. Guess we will see what hatch!
