I don't understand why anyone lives in the UP during winter!!       

Looks like a nice day.  Sun is out.  A bit humid, but hey, not going to complain.   

Looking forward to our first camping trip this weekend!!

Yep. In the winter we edge them out a little. Summers are warmer here, though (thank goodness!). We are actually located in a relatively warm part of the UP - it gets much colder north and west of here.

Actually, Anchorage is much more mild than much of the Upper Peninsula. You benefit from a warmer body of water (the ocean) keeping temperatures higher than average. Here, the Great Lakes freeze, sometimes completely, like in the past few winters, so we do not get any warmth from them.

If you compare the climate data for Escanaba, Michigan to Anchorage, Alaska during the winter months, our average temperatures are lower than yours. And Escanaba is in the UP's "banana belt" so the weather is more mild temperatures and the snowfall lower than other parts. Houghton and Hancock are both colder than Escanaba, and get more than double the amount of snow of your area of Alaska each winter. It takes some special people to live in that part of the country, Anchorage would be like a vacation Florida to those folks!

Got my slaked lime at FFH. : )

I went there today and picked up a bag of "dolomitic hydrated lime". Is this the right stuff? It's the only stuff they had up there when I told him what I was planning to do.

Well we finished the coop for mil/niece and just dusted and ivermectin treated the 2 silkies we are giving them to go with their LONE hen (auction....mil can't tell niece no, etc). I sent the sevin and ivermectin with dh and instructions to treat the other bird as well.

Pics of coop (yes....chicken wire is crap I know). If (more like when) we get it back welded wire is going over it. Run detaches and clips to the coop to make moving easier. It's essential a tractor and aside from the fencing I'm happy with it.

NOW I can clean out the coop the silkies were in and get the stinky chicks out of my basement!!!

Is barn lime the same thing as agricultural lime? This stuff is what the guy said he has used in his horse barn before.

Well, I just got brave here tonight and put the 10 week old chicks in with the big girls tonight. And tossed in enough goodies and whatnot to keep them all happy in the morning as well.
