Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Aart - I found it through the Michigan small farms council. http://www.michigan.gov/documents/mdard/Poultry_Quarantine_Final_1_490684_7.pdf?20150602144903

I just find it highly annoying that they keep sending mixed messages. We know chickens and what the dangers are but the general public is (sorry) rather stupid and will believe anything they are told about chickens and the "danger". I don't have tv so I don't know what hype the media is doing but the state has likely just made an impact on how 4-h kids will view AI now and in the future. A lot of good bio security teaching has been tossed aside for fear.

:/sorry for rant!
Thanks....that pretty much said what the others did....but the other didn't use the word quarantine.

Does anyone know if any FFH stores still carry chicks and what stores do? Also are they straight run, or do they also carry ducks? Nearest store is like 30 miles away and thinking about going tomorrow morning.

be sure to ask a clerk, last couple times I was in FFH or TSC, they had non on the floor but had them in the back room
And now something to lighten the mood.

LOVE baby goats

Yikes! I'm hopeful that this isn't indicative of how most interactions on the site go! I'm new to the site from Vermontville, Michigan, and just took the plunge with our new ladies. 5 Ameraucanas, 3 Silver Laced Wyandottes, and 2 Isa Browns. I look forward to learning more about this new adventure on the forums, and I love how much info is already compiled here. I stalked around here quite heavily while I was building the coop, and decided I'd better get around to joining now that the birds are here.

Not sure if anyone is local and needs free firewood

I will be home Monday and Tuesday next week for cutting.

Have lots of down trees ready to cut.
You cut and haul away. Lots of ash and hickory.
Bring a few folks to help as you're going to need them.

If interested let me know. These are the only 2 days i have available.

Located in Lapeer

LMAO...actually it makes me a little sad when people dress up farm animals.

Kids born in the winter/early spring expend less energy staying warm with "goat coats". Fashion is secondary, lol! It's a better alternative than heat lamps IMO. These are my two Nigerians. My other kids also had some.
