Just have to share....my son (13yo) got his first egg last night from one of his barred rocks that he has raised for his production trio he was going to take to fair. It was an adorable oval nugget weighing 1.5 oz. Needless to say he was a proud papa!! This was the kids first year doing poultry for fair so to have raised them from day old to first egg was huge for him.

It doesn't matter if you are a kid or an old goat. Getting that first egg is a wonderful experience. And it happens every time with a new hen.

I have 2 broodies that I would like to put fertile eggs under. Anyone have any fertile chicken or duck eggs? Heck, maybe even quail. It's either that or try to break them before I go in to the hospital.

Kinda new to this hobby, I have 6 four month old orphingtons. they have free access to plenty of northern Michigan sand, I'm feeding them Purina crumble layers blend. Do they need grit? I have some, but something tells me to hold off for a while.
Also, does layers blend contain hormones? Trying to stay a little more organic.
