Anybody in SE MI have small (Serama small) white eggs from any of their hens? Am looking for Serama eggs, but would take any type as long as they're small. Smaller than Banty...more like the small game hen size. Folly's Place is saving me some light beige from her porcelain d'uccle's but I'm also searching for white.
Also, blue duck eggs (darker blue to blue/green). If any one has any within an hours drive of i94/m59 let me know and I'll pick up.
These are not for hatching; need them for art. Thx!

To you, wanna, did you find that rooster in good shape? I hope so, he should have been able to find his way home. If he's around, I would love to have him!
To @gladahmae if some of those are cockerels and are RIR's not PR's and Wanna's bird is gone, I would take one off your hands. I am starting breeding programs and have 3 RIR hens to breed. I could use a RIR roo and I don't eat my pets! They all get the S.S. plan for their service and a proper burial!

@justplainbatty I don't know how often you make it down to southern mi. I still have the rooster. He's still having a leg issue, but he seems to be showing some improvement. He's been staying in the house with us and I give him some supervised outside time. Just the last few days he's started to get around a bit faster and easier. He even jumped up and was roosting on a bar a few feet off the ground.

I just wanted to check and see.

Pretty sure I have 7 roo's on my hands.. No crowing yet, but at Nine weeks, I can tell. I guess I have to find a thread on how to butcher and cook some chickens.

I let the girls out this morning and found an egg in the coop. The one on the left is the mystery egg. Its kind of a yellowish green color and seems to have some speckles. The one on the right is from our Isa Brown so its probably not hers (and she had already laid around noon yesterday). So I am thinking its one of the 2 EE. We also have 3 RIR, 2 Black Jersey Giants & 1 Black Australorp.

We also have 2 Rouen & 1 Peking hens but I doubt its theirs.

I happened to touch the picture and got a close up. I can't really tell, but it looks like there is a pretty heavy cuticle on that egg....if so, I would say duck...a pretty dirty duck egg. If you can scrub that cuticle off, then, yes, it's a duck. Otherwise I'd go with EE.

The cuticle is the very outside layer of the egg. It's what makes it so you don't have to refrigerate eggs

On ducks especially, the cuticle can be a bit waxy, and you can see scratches in it because when the egg is laid the cuticle is still wet and when mrs duck moves is around, it gets scratched. The spots you are seeing are thicker parts, or dirty spots on the cuticle. Use a bit of baking powder and some hot water, and I'll bet it comes off and you have a nice white egg underneath. Because ducks lay in watery areas, the cuticle protects the egg from bacteria. Once it is removed, the egg will be more prone to spoilage. And the shape is right for a duck egg...nice oval for a Pekin or Rouen.
