Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Well I'm pretty sure the hatching is over. Will give the remaining eggs another dag or so but I'm thrilled with the 14 (maybe 15?) chicks that hatched yesterday and Friday. Now it's just fingers crossed for lots of pullets and very few cockerels.

Dh and I are off to spend another day at the softball field. We are playing in a tournament....hoping I'll be able to move and function tomorrow. Hahahhahahha!

Thank you @glambka and @wannahomestead! Here is before & after. So now I am thinking duck, just not sure which hen.

I sure would like to have the money that was expended in my area on fireworks yesterday. July 5th was well underway before it finally quieted down. Speaking about money. I saw this and thought it was pretty good.
Even though my boat is currently being modified to make it a better river boat, a new one all tricked out could probably be bought with all that fireworks money.

Well hey, everyone! I went down to Indiana for the weekend, what a blast! I love it down here. I've been looking to move my farm since Hubby laid hands on me. I think I'll move to Cold Water. I love lake Hamilton and Lake George. I'll go back in 3 weeks or so to look at property just north of the MI border. I have met the coolest people here and even though I have chickens and farm these days, The first 25 yrs of my life were spent on the beaches of FL and CA, then 18 yrs married to a man on Lake St Clair. I miss boating and wave runners, now I can have it all. Thanks Dad!!!!
Wish me luck, I'll still try to make Lansing next year.

I need some advice. I let my peeps & quacks out of their run this morning. Sliding door open so I can hear them clucking away. I heard loud not normal clucking so I went to do a head count, came up with only 8 in the yard so I went searching for #9. Thankfully I found her but she was obviously limping. I checked her over no blood, cuts, missing feathers, but her I guess knee felt a bit warm. She is able to move her toes so I dont think paralysis. Do I soak her in an Epsom salt bath? What temp should the water be?

The egg on the right was the first one laid by our flock last week!!! We are so excited. :) :)

And this morning both of our Rhode Island Reds have laid, so it is starting!!

Our chicks were born in early March, so it's a bit earlier than we were expecting, so rushed yesterday to get some nesting boxes ready for them, which they have started using.

RIRs must be an early laying variety. We have 4 Easter Eggers that are about a week and a half older, but haven't started laying yet. Hoping soon!

Anyway, good morning here, hope the rest of you have a great day!

I bought 10 little chicks at TSC Black Australorps and 6 of them are FOR sure Roosters:( 3 are FOR SURE hens... But I have this one that I am not sure of...
and this is a hen for sure.

So is it a rooster or a hen?

Anyone else have terrible mosquito issues? Are you doing anything about them? This is the worse I've had mosquitoes ever. Granted this is also my first summer in the new house, but growing up in northern mi we had a lot of mosquitoes and they weren't as bad as this. The moment you stray from the driveway you are literally engulfed in a cloud of the blood sucking little monsters.
