Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Aright fellow Michiganders, with even more rain coming through I'm ready to start exploring mosquito options. I've heard of some stuff from TSC that's like 30 bucks, Wisdom TC Flowable.

I normally would not be keen on spraying, but they are so bad here, I'm at a point where I can't get outside project done. I inhaled 2 a couple nights ago and immediately started puking for about 15 minutes straight. Not to mention they're attacking the dogs, the chickens, the ducks, and us.

I want to use something that will be fairly safe for all of us, but still be effective. Any recommendations?

I've not heard of this, but the skeeters by us (near Flint) are just horrible; worst season ever for them. Let us know if you try this Wisdom chemical and if it works. I have horses, donkeys, ducks, chickens...so I'm with you on wishing I could find something a bit more safe!

Also, anyone with LF American Games that may have a couple hens for sale (I'm not looking for exhibition quality)? If so, please PM me.

Grrr..... Stinking client no showing on me for her 90 minute session. And hasn't even called us back yet. I could have gotten a trade in if we had heard back from her if she was going to come in or not today. I so need it after yesterday.

As we all probably know already spraying chemicals always has an effect on the environment. I can remember as a child the city trucks that drove up and down the street spraying insect killing chemicals (DDT and others) all over - and going outside to play shortly after. What damage has that done to us, and when will we see it? My father and all 3 of his sisters had cancer, a total of 8 different kinds between the 4 of them, despite NO previous family history of any cancer of any kind - likely some environmental exposure many years ago when they were young.

Mosquito spray on yourself, and screens on the coops, will go a long way towards alleviating bites, and head nets are also helpful. A fan in the coop will also provide relief for the birds. Use dunks in water troughs and standing water, and eliminate as much standing water as possible. For our horses we use a topical spot-on product called EquiSpot that repels mosquitoes and other biting insects for 2 weeks. Vectra 3d and Advantix repell mosquitoes as well as fleas on dogs. There is a topical spray called Centaura that can be used on horses, people and dogs (it does not contain DEET). There are also insect-repelling ear tags that can be used with larger livestock, either as a tag or attached to halters.

We are keeping a pullet, and selling the other 4. We never expected all 5 to hatch! If anyone is interested, please let me know.

Where are ya from Amy, and is there 3 roos and 2 pullets?
If so and not to far away, i would be interested in a pair.
Im in lapeer between flint and port huron.

My five Oregon Grey turkeys that are growing like weeds, I'll definitely need to share some pictures of them, soon. I hope I get a pair out of all of them. If I am lucky, hopefully there is a trio. Though if I can get two pairs, I will offer the second up for sale. I personally enjoy birds that are blue/grey colored, but wanted something a little different then blue slates.

If I can't find my one roo a home in the next couple days, I'm going to have to dispatch him I think. I've never done it and feel a bit bad about the whole thing.

I lost my favourite girl yesterday.....no warning, just came home from visiting a friend and there she was....laying in the coop. I am just gutted, she was such a beautiful girl and one of the first 6 pullets I got. RIP Dollar Bill....such a sweetie

I looked up Wisdom; it's and insecticide 'bifenthrin' or something similar, guaranteed to kill any insect, and most likely fish, amphibians, etc around. It will kill mosquitoes and every thing else too. As bad as the skeeters are (never worse!) I'm not buying it. Mary
