Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

You should be able to find a lab in your state that will do free necropsy's.
In california we take the birds to UCDavis. Somewhere there is a list of labs for each state.
I will try to find it.,

We have 2 Araucanas one lays pink and the other lays green, Dr Seuss was right green eggs and ham lol

Methinks you might have Easter Eggers who are improperly labeled as Araucanas. If the bird came from a hatchery, she isn't an Araucana, sadly. No hatchery raises purebreds. Rumpless and tufted Araucanas only come from breeders. That lethal tufting gene (any chick homozygous for tufting will die in shell or shortly after hatch) and lowered fertility from rumpless booties (tails really do help get the deed done) make Araucana a poor choice for hatchery profit margins.

Many hatcheries sell birds that they call Araucanas or Ameraucanas. Most of the time, it is neither. A few select hatcheries will sell actual Ameraucana, like Meyers, but apparently their conformation is not very good.

Hi everyone, my name is Amanda and I'm in White Lake. Last year I hatched 2 geese with my children for the hatching experience, however, then we named them, and I still have them. I can't keep them, I"m in a subdivision, but I can't take them back from where I got the eggs because they will be culled and we LOVE these Geese. We hold them and snuggle and they both lay lots of eggs. They are very people oriented as they have only ever been around myself, children and friends. I had a good home lined up for them right here in my city, but this morning she texted me her husband said no.

I have to get rid of them as I'm breaking my sub division rules by having them. But, I can't just give them to anyone or anywhere. I'm looking for a home near me, White Lake, Highland, Howell, Hartland, Holly, Rose twp., etc where we can come visit. I will pay for their food, vet bills etc. but they need a forever loving home.

If you are near these cities, and you have room for 2 beautiful female geese to have as pets, not food, could you please contact me? I have to get rid of them soon, please, can you you help out a fellow Michigander?

My email is [email protected]. Thank you.

I'm sorry you've found yourself in this predicament; I sure wish folks would think about the other end of hatching before going ahead with it. Not trying to be mean, just practical. I do hope you find a good home for them, and wish you the best of luck in doing so. You might think about posting on Craigslist as well.

Hi Amanda. I am so sorry for your predicament. I live in California or I would take them. I have found great people on BYC list. You may try another forum on byc. I would think you could find someone.
