Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

The chicks that were hatched out by the co-moms are now 7 weeks old. While they still hang around with the hens, the hens are leaving them alone more often. For example, when I go out they come running and immediately squat.
So the question is; how long after hatching chicks do hens begin to lay again?

I had one momma who kept her chicks for 6 months and never laid an egg till next spring. also had one that started to lay about 4 weeks after hatching her chicks and still mothers the chick
Been too busy...son got married Saturday on North Muskegon State Park Beach and the reception was in my barn. The tent we rented was circus size (for over 200 folks) and the restrooms were on a trailer, running water and A/C. So I'm now officially broke, lol!

Back on BYC though and tried to scan the back pages. Welcome to the new folks. Well, back to work on Staple Station (the farm)...
WOW that was a big event. sounds like fun though

Hi :) Brand new member with zero chicken experience, brought home 8 ISA Brown chicks yesterday. My 5yo is in love with them (she wanted to sleep next to the brooder). Glad to see so many fellow Michiganders :D

PlainJane!! You'll love your experience with the chicks. Ask any question you have, someone will have an answer. Just moving from the Flint area to the Lansing area. Taking a few of my chickens with me. Some got new homes. Now looking for a coop so my girls will have a new home, too!

Finally got the roof started on the coop! Going to the Habit for Humanity Restore to see if they have any windows. I was there a few days ago and they had a crank window and a lot of sliding windows. Still need to figure something for the floor so it doesn't rot. Thinking some linoleum but not sure yet.
