Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Wish my girls would hurry up and get their molt over with. been seeing a lot of loose feathers out in the run, but it seems mostly that they're not really molting yet. My older girls from last year didn't really molt last year and their feathers all look pretty ratty now.

Kinda bummed out this week, got a pretty nasty case of contact dermatitis and I can't really work as a massage therapist with that all over my arms. Thankfully the meds the doctor prescribed for me seem to be doing the trick in knocking down the spots, just gotta finish healing up. another one of those times I really wish I had accelerated healing like Wolverine has.
What is the source...is it contagious or just ugly?
Either way, bummer. :(

I have had it on / off for the past 15+ years. After much research the medical field isn't 100% sure what the cause is or what triggers the outbreak. Some doctors believe its either heredity, immune deficiency, milk/dairy/wheat allergy and even read alcoholic beverages cause an outbreak. I have even read it may be a vaccine complication or a staph infection (but I dont really think its staph).

Both my sister & I get it. Hers in the humid summer months and mine in the dry winter months. I know that if I drink to much milk in the winter I break out. So I try my best to avoid it, but the craving for milk gets strong during an outbreak. I also try to avoid any soaps & lotions that contain alcohol, which is not easy.

I have found that if I catch it early hydrocortisone for eczema works to "keep it under control". And bleach baths work in the extremes. I try not to see the dermatologist to keep too many steroids out of my system.

I used to have it too, and getting skin tested by an allergist gave me the information I needed to avoid the allergins that made my life difficult. Hugely helpful! Is there now good blood testing for allergins? For food allergies in people? Mary

Mostly just nasty looking, with a high risk of infection for me to boot. Well, last week I spent a couple of nights over at Amy's place and well, she uses different laundry soap and softener, and we're thinking that's what caused me to break out. I use the hypoallergenic stuff just so I don't have anything on my clothes that could set a client's allergies off.

Right now it seems the meds the doctor gave me seems to be working, and my spots are shrinking. Its just a matter now of getting them to heal up so that I can massage again. have been off the past two days, and I had tomorrow off already to go to the GVSU homecoming. Might be 50/50 on me being able to go on monday. But at least now the worst of the itching seems to be over. When I first came in, the PA and the doctor both first thoughts was that it was poison ivy.

Quote: Ahh yes, when I googled 'contact dermatitis' it said allergic reaction. I imagine it's a perception issue when doing massage, as well as any 'open skin' is susceptible when working so 'closely' with the general public. Hope you heal up quickly.

Hope you get to healing soon. Its so tough to live in a world of scents when some of us are allergic.
