Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I love all the wild birds, well, except the hawks! Love sitting here at the table and watching them at the feeders. There are so many different kinds. Beautiful!!
I wish it would stop raining so I could finish my coop!!! I want to bring my girls home!

I had an unfortunate first yesterday. A juvenile Bald Eagle got one of my young Polish hens. He took her about 200 yards behnd the house to eat. DH scared it off but I fear he isn't migrating and may become a permenant pest.

Life is wonderful and yet we never know what awaits us when a new morning breaks.  However, just the fact that we have awoke on this new day is reason enough to be thankful.  I'm not sure when I will be fishing again since last Saturday started with the discovery that I had suffered a stroke.  I am fortunate that it hasn't affected me mentally but the issues with the right side of my body are going to take some life style modifications.

Today I have a doctor's appointment to check out my left elbow.  An elective surgery to remove a benign bursae that would have eventually reabsorbed turned into a two battle.  First a MRSA infection that required another surgery followed by a PICC line for 8 weeks of exteme antibiotic therapy.  Then when it refused to heal they decided in January that  I needed another surgery for ostiomylitis.  Again with a 12 weeks round of antibotics and another PICC line.

Then as the 2 year anniversary of the first surgery approached the elbow once again started hurting.  I had scheduled doctor appointment to try to find out what was going on.  However, before that could occur I suffered a TIA that has left the right side of my body extremely numb.  How long this will last only God knows.  Typically it resolved in one to two days, but mine hasn't started to abate.  I can't help but wonder if this isn't related.

While this is real life changer, the outpouring of concern and support from family and friends only makes me more aware of how rich my life has been.  As I always tell people there a no bad days only bad attitudes.  While this latest chapter of life isn't what I had envisioned it is one that I will happily face.
I'm so sorry Opa, I have been wondering how your arm was healing. You have had more troubles than most & yet you have a great attitude. Gods speed with your healing & you will be in my thoughts & prayers

I would not be surprised that a lot of what you are dealing with is due to the messup of the first surgery, how ever you will never get Dr. or hospital to admit it.... will be praying for you and hoping a complete recovery.   X2, what 1muttsfan said. ....

Opa, I am so sorry to hear about your troubles. It Is certain, though, that there is no one I know better able to handle adversity. I know your family is rallying around you, but please let me know if there is anything I can do. And tell Granny I said Hi.

went to a funeral today for our son-in-laws grandmother,  103 and 6 months. she was a tiny woman with a very big heart. always a smile and something nice to say about every one.
our son in law (who was adopted)   visited her almost every day and played cards with her. I think it says a lot for their family,   Our daughter chose well:love
Aww I would say so, lovely.

Last Saturday's plan to winterize the chicken run went by the wayside when I realized I was suffering a stroke. Fortunately, while the right side of my body is numb, Hope and I were able to get it accomplished today.

One thing that made enclosing it easier was some old political signs. They are corrugated plastic cardboard sheets that are about 4'x8'. Sure is more substantial than visqueen. I have several pieces left if anyone near me wants to come and get them.

Yeah, that stuff would work pretty well.

Got out for some of this afternoon with the 4 wheeler and cart and got about 2 grain bags worth of ear corn. Probably about another 6 pounds in just loose corn by the time I got the cart all unloaded. Plenty of more field to go check. Just gotta do that before they come back and disk it all up.

Vintyagegem, keep going there, it will be better again. Everyone loves chicken and bad stuff happens sometimes. Keep your flock locked in for a couple of weeks, because your hawk will return. Usually they feed every three or four days, so look out for a while! Opa, get well soon! And see your neurologist, and take your pills. Mary
Thank you so much for the kind words Mary, they were much appreciated. My week ended on a bright note after the setbacks with my hens....I got my first olive egg from a pair of pullets I got early in the summer from Wynette.....I was so happy

I've never had coloured eggs before and this was beautiful, its given me the enthusiasm to continue on with my hen keeping.

Any Michigan peeps interested in a swedish flower hen cockerel? I have some 6 weekish grow outs that are just starting to show their gender. Please PM me if interested. I'm in Delton, MI. Here are a couple of them.
