I have a broody sitting on 2 eggs due sometime this week. I checked today and someone went in and broke an egg in her nest, and got broken egg all over. At this point do I try and clean the eggs, or just hope for the best?

It would likely be too disruptive at this point to clean the eggs. You might just gently wipe them off, but disturb them as little as possible, and do not wet them.

looks like they're due to hatch by thursday, so we'll wait it out and hope for the best.

Grrrr.... Think I got into some poison ivy or poison oak last tuesday when I was clearing up some weeds and vines by the garage where I'll be parking the tractor for winter. started to break out on Thursday and by Friday I was a mess. Got it all over my forearms and elbows. Totally sucks as I do tend to use my forearms and elbows at work.

Hi, Michiganders!

I just back from vacation, and Friday (while I was gone), the neighbors dog got ahold of my chicken's butt -- luckily, she'll only took feathers, but I just wanted to consult some seasoned bird owners to see if she's going to pull through.

She's eating/drinking just fine (and ravenous with treats). She laid on egg on Saturday and is moving/roosting/dust-bathing as normal. However, her skin is blue/green around where her feathers were pulled. Is this normal bruising? Do I need to give her a supplement of any sort?

Thanks in advance for any help! I'd be lost without the help from this site!

It looks like bruising to me. Maybe someone w more experience can give you a better assessment. She's a lucky girl if she only lost her feathers.

I've had to be "selective" buying the pine flakes/shavings at TSC & sift thru the pallet to find some bags that haven't gotten wet inside the bag from rain.
They work fine as long as they aren't wet.
I only got some once from FF&H a couple years ago, & I didn't like it - was was more like sawdust. Maybe they are different now?
I like the kind at Rural King the best , but unfortunately the closest location is 100 miles each way - so in order to at least "break-even" , I hafta get about 6~8 bags of shavings AND 6~8 bags of feed - even tho the items cost a little less, the gas money cost for the trip

I prefer shavings from TSC then from FF&H. I've only had damp shavings once. Ive learned to check the bags too.

Blue green is bruising......as long as she's acting fine, I wouldn't worry too much.
The swelling you might want to keep an eye on.
