I might be interested in some of them in a few months.  I would just need to see how things go with my move to an apartment goes with keeping the flock here on the farm first.  

Signed the lease today and we got a key.  Anybody want to help us move Saturday Morning??  

That will work just let me know should you decide you're able too. I hope the move goes well for you as I know from personal experience it isn't fun.

The cracked corn takes out all the good oils, so feeding them the whole corn retains all its "goodness." Same as when people eat whole grains. Cracked corn in poultry feed is just a filler with little nutritional value.

I would contest that. The process of cracking grains - which adds or subtracts nothing - simply makes them more digestable by exposing more of the grain to the digestive process. Grains are often coated by a tough outer skin which makes them hard to digest, such as flax seeds which when unprocessed are poorly digested. When whole grains are referenced in human food it simply means the whole grain seed was used, not that it was left in an unaltered state. It may have been cracked, crushed or ground.

Once grains are processed they have a shorter shelf life and should be used within 3 months, as the water-soluble vitamins start decreasing once exposed to air.

Corn is quite high in fat and should be fed judiciously in any form.

My EE's have never laid well over winter. Seems first ones to stop and last to start. Interesting how different the same breeds can be.

Can't complain about being tired of the white stuff. Haven' t had much of it this winter. That's why I live in lower MI. UP is beautiful. Love to visit. But, too much snow!

My little Peanut laid her first egg last night. Its the one on the right. Its a dark greenish blue. I thought she was a silkie cochin mix but i was wrong shes deff silkie and something ..... maybe EE. The egg on the left is from my EE.

Me and the little chickie want to have our own private coop.

As if I haven't had enough things going on, today I went out to the coop and saw that my waterer had froze solid in the coop. darn thing must have burnt out on me after its 3rd winter. Don't hardly have time to go to TSC right now to get a new one. at least I do still have a heated dog bowl that still works and I put that in to get the girls some water.

I found one of my pullets dead this morning. She was about 8 months old. She laid an egg that day. I really didn't see them much during the day because I was at work but everyone came out in the morning and seemed fine. At night when I shut up in the coop she was laying in the run. I picked her up and put her in the coop and she seemed unsteady on her feet. She laid down in the shavings and feel asleep. I thought she was just really tired and figured I wouldn't bother her. It was pretty cold last night but it has been the last few days and they've been through a lot worse. No signs of injury. Any thoughts on how she died? Should I be concerned for the rest of the flock? Everyone looks fine today.
