Hey guys! Long time no see........hope everyone fared the wind and escaped not having any power. We had a temp shelter for the sheep that got mangled and one of my coop runs almost knocked over but all is well. Luckily no lambs were born to be blown away!

I feel bad cutting in your conversation but I'm looking for a breeder closer to me (so I can avoid shipping) and I feel I have more chances finding him/her on this thread

I'm looking to start a flock of 5-6 chicken (either by incubating eggs or purchasing very young chicks) to have as pets/ fresh eggs...I would like my flock to be made up of chicken of very distinctive colors or breed individual chicken....look is important but temperament is the key factor, all must be very Docile in nature
The breed I'm interested in is the English Orpingtons, Black, Golden Laced, Chocolate or Buff (either or) and maybe more as I learn about different colors, but they must be the very fluffy kind( with long feathers that kinda hide the legs)

I fell in love with EO for their look but more so for their reputation but I'm also considering other breeds like the Polish if is Docile and not high maintenance (I have kids and a full time job) but first I need to learn more about their temperament (and the existence of others lol) so I appreciate all the input I can get

Which end of Oakland county are you nearest too? I know an English orpington breeder I could PM you about if you're close enough for it to make sense. I also have some English Orpington color variety cross chicks I will eventually have extra pullets of, but they will not be solid colored. Carolina rare chicks or papas poultry are high quality shippers but they are expensive. There's also a hatchery (in, I want to say, Flint) that keeps English orpingtons, but I've never seen their stock, so I can't vouch for them other than saying they exist.

I will be breeding my BBS Eng. Orphingtons this spring. Big gentle fluffy birds. I do have an extra Roo right now that I didn't have the heart to send to freezer camp as he is so gentle.

Hi, I'm at the borderline with Genesee county, but don't mind drive for the right chick
I learned (on my intro thread) that incubating is not as easy as I first thought, so buying eggs is no longer an option (at least for now) but I would like to start with newly hatched chicks no older than a few days, even if it means waiting...do you have picture of your EO posted somewhere on here so I can see them?

I'm not sure what "BBS Eng" means, I've only been in the chicken discussion for a couple of weeks but "Big gentle fluffy birds " sure sounds good!! ...do you have pics posted somewhere on here, so I can see them?

I'm not sure what I want yet, that's the reason I decided to join and start asking questions! lol every time I'm set on one breed, I learn of new ones I like better!.... but then I do further research on them and read reviews and something (usually the temperament) doesn't fit the profile of my dream pet....I love Silkies but I read they're "high maintenance" same thing I read about Polish....so yes I will need all the luck I can get

Tomorrow the insulated coop walls get torn out, and unhappy rats will be disturbed big time. Then bait stations, more concrete in the foundation, and hopefully problem solved. It's been a tough week. BBS is shorthand for Blue-Black-splash, also known as Andalusian blue (as opposed to "Self-blue" aka Lavender) The gene that causes the range in color acts on black, leading to black, "blue" (grey) and Splash" (white with flecks of grey) depending on if none, one self-blue gene or two are present.

These are some BBS Arkansas Blue birds, blue and black
