Not be be a downer Rad but I hope you have a means to move snow...... I live on a 1/4 mile private drive that we have to plow and snow blow all winter. However I'm not sure I would have it any other way I love the quite. Also you probably won't get as much snow as we do up here. I'm in the buckle of the snow belt. Best of luck with your new place! I'd attach a hug emogie bit I don't know how to lol

Now that I've made my way through the last two weeks of posts..... Sorry I've been awal it's been super crazy at work and home..... especially at home. Good news I'm down to 22 chickens and only 2 of them are roosters still have 4 coops I'm maintaning. Bad news one of my bantams is limping nothing appears or feels broken hoping for the best possible outcome for her she's super sweet. Might have to trim back some feathers and fluff to get a better look. I have her isolated during the day and sleeping with her friends at night. I'm not sure what else I can do for her except keep her as stress free as possible.
The saying "When it rains it pours" is rining very true for me right now. I'm ready to build a 10 foot wall around my property and become a hermit.
Sorry for venting. My byc friends are the best!!!!!

Thanks! Yeah, I should be able to make that work. Sunday was probably going to be a good day to go do that. I could meet Amy at the Saline TSC and pick some up then. Then it's just a matter of putting them under the hen. That would be best to do that at night right??
Got the secondary all moved around with a dog coop for the broody to nest in. She wasn't happy about that, but I think she was calming down and looking at the coop to go sit in when I was leaving the farm. Kinda thinking that I should have put some cardboard or something up over the entrance to encourage her to calm down and sit faster. Still wanting an answer on the best time to place chicks under her.

From all I've read, never done it myself, best time is well after dark but be there first light to make sure they are 'bonded'. Mama might not be accepting of chicks and also chicks might not 'get it' to stay under mama, the younger the chicks the better. Have a back up brooding plan. Might be hard if you're not living where the birds are living, I'd go a bit nuts if I couldn't check on them several times a day. Best of cLuck!
