This morning, one of my seven week old Belgian d'Uccle cockerels started to crow! Love it! He's got several older boys as examples, and for those crowing contests. It's cute! Here's his little group last week, with mama. Mary

My extra Lavender Orp roo's are about to head that route too. Rehomed one at least, but I always feel a little sad when choosing who stays and who goes.

Lavender orps?? was kinda thinking about getting some of them. Girlfriend was hopeing that someone would have brought some lavenders to chickenstock. let me know when you hatch out some more in the spring.



I've been a nervous chicken daddy the past couple of nights. decided that the new BSL's I got are feathered out enough that they can go sleep outside in the old coop instead of the brooder. Gotta tuck them into the plastic dog coop I have in it or else they'll just pile up in a corner of the coop. But so far they seemed to be liking having the more open space with grass to stratch around in. Plus its been 3 weeks now, so I moved the coop into the pen with the big girls so they can start introducing themselves to the big girls through the safety of the hardware cloth of the coop.

Will do! They’re sweet, big birds. We’ve enjoyed having them thus far.

So cute when they first start to crow! Always puts a smile on my face listening to their crowing mishaps while they’re trying to get it figured out.

So proud of my little ones. stopped by the farm last night to check on them and to pick up a new pair of cowboy boots I ordered that came in. They had figured out on their own last night that its best to pile into the dog kennel in their coop to sleep.

we had an abundance of boys this year. Have some nice looking Iowas Blue roos that would be great addition to flock breeding but all the biggest enthusiasts are...you guessed it...Iowa
love when littles show their smarts.

Brett and I have just been so busy on fixing the house...chicken and ducks..new doggie named Beau (red standard poodle pup 4 months old now...me working full time...grand kids...on and on. The new format is not as friendly than old BYC for sure. I already have a raffle item for CS2018 too @uchytil !!! cant be TOO prepared

Just stumbled upon this thread. I am new to chickens and new to BYC. We just bought a farm this summer - hobby variety, not a working farm. Looking to start my flock and am looking local for Gold Laced Wyandottes - 6 pullets/hens. Can anyone point me to a source instate?

One.More.Day.....then cool off!!
Tho today(mostly cloudy here) didn't feel as bad as yesterday,
and yesterday didn't feel as bad as the day before.
Not sure if it was because the humidity was dropping,
or I was getting used to the heat, or both.

Welcome! I was going to suggest Townline Hatchery in Zeeland but that is still a good three hour drive from you, plus I just looked on their website and it says they are out of stock.

You might want to consider Meyer Hatchery. They are located in Ohio, so not in state, but I have had good luck with them. They also typically offer the option to purchase GLW chicks or started pullets, but it looks like they are out of the started pullets right now. https://www.meyerhatchery.com/productinfo.a5w?prodID=GLWS

Maybe someone else has an idea?
