Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I just culled 9 more cockerels, 11 in all so far. Still have 10. I hatched out 2 + boys for every girl this year. No one up here is interested in them.
OyVey!! That stinks!
I had about 50-50...got 6 to do.
Was going to do it last week but had a tooth blow up.
Daughter is coming next week and is going to help,
that'll be nice to have some help for once....Yay!!

Not much discussion going on here lately, so I'll share this.
Since I got my first chickens, I've dreamed of having a "farm". Kind of going back to my roots when I was a kid in PA. Mom and Dad had a farm and we were dirt-poor. But it was a great experience growing up.
We moved to the city in MI so Dad could work in a factory and provide for his family. He did that quite well. When he died some 15 years ago, he made me promise to take care of Mom. I did that up until last year, when she passed.

Now that Mom is gone, I'm in a good place. I've been here for a year now. I'm in a good place, at least for me. Thanks to my parents, I'm living a dream that I could never have realized living in the city.
I think my Dad would appreciate the tools that I have, that really came from him. Mom wouldn't think so all that much but she wanted me to be happy.

So thanks to both Mom and Dad, I have the means to live a full life now. One with dogs, cats, and chickens. And as a bonus, I have the friends that I have met here on this forum. Gratitude to all of you here.

Sweet Dreams RaZ!
Glad to see you find some peace and satisfaction.
Wish you could bring that back blade over here and scrape the sod off my gravel driveway.

dang, no need to get all sappy............. I'm happy for you too! I'm very glad you finally have life the way you want it, with toys! You went through unjustified hell the last few years.

Life is good. There are so many nice people on this forum. And, keeping in touch with a few that are no longer on here is nice too.

Why is my just laying EE giving me brown eggs? I have enough brown eggs, I want blue or pink or something other than brown. :barnie :he

Why is my just laying EE giving me brown eggs?
:( I hate when that happens....so disappointing after waiting 6 mos
Where did you get the EE?
Most my hatchery EE's lay blue/green......it's most my own EE crosses that laid brown.

I am anxiously awaiting my first 'real' OE cross (BCMxCCL) to lay here soon...she's 19 weeks. She really doesn't look incredibly ready, but hoping it won't be too much longer.

Also really looking forward to getting rid of the six 15wos cockerels,
either sell this week or slaughter next week....
....my daughter is coming to visit(squeee!!) and will help with the heavy work.
