Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

@aart
I totally agree w/you on not disturbing frostbite unless there's an infection. I did a documentation too, a few years ago, after having seen so many threads with people "doctoring" frostbite and making it MUCH WORSE than if they'd left it alone.

Always makes me cringe to see those threads.

Will keep my fingers crossed for you, Randy.
Thursday was a perfect day for outdoor chores. I got a lot done. Hope we have a few more nice days to finish up my list of things I want to do. It sure has been a wet cool fall so far.

Cold and still raining here,
yesterday was raining and windy as hell,
think I'll stay inside all day.

Leaves are falling.
Feathers too...the molt is ON.
More feathers than poop on roost boards this morning.

One of the old girls is still laying once a week or so...
....the rest are pullet eggs.
2 days worth shown here:

Cold and windy here, a few snow flakes. Got the garden cleaned out, everything thrown in the run. And finally planted my garlic, late as usual.
Moved my 4 young birds in with the flock, completely fuss free, only had to put one pullet inside the first night.
Hoping to clean the coop out before winter, but it may have to wait until spring.

I had a spate of snow here earlier. Glad it passed quickly. I was working on the coop. Finally got the big door framed and set in place. Took the young birds out of the trough brooder and put them in the big brood pen. Two bags of fresh shavings for them to romp in.
The big door looks a bit odd right now, but the plan is a door-within-a-door. The frame will be a wider door on hinges. In the spring. For now, I'll fill in the spaces for winterization. All of the materials used have been reclaimed or recycled. I'm going for the Ugly Coop trophy.

Chicken Juggling After Dark.
Who goes to pot or sale?
Have 3 age groups, usually slaughter all the oldest, but want to keep a few.
Couple middle agers need to go....might better sell some of my OE pullets(some of 10).
Hard decisions.

Was a gorgeous day today, sunny, warmish and not windy.
Got a few things done outside......including wrassling the mower deck off to fix belt before finishing up field mowing.

Your mower runs on juice? Mine uses gas. :gig

My biggest "problem" living in the middle of nowhere is the dirt and mud that the dogs and I track into the house. Even worse is how leaves and even acorns seem to wind up in the house. How did I get acorns in the bathroom?
Blame Moose and Squirrel. *russian accent* ;)

Been busy the past two weeks, and bam, managed to come down with walking pneumonia that was almost getting to be the non walking kind. Had me down friday, saturday, and finally on sunday I opted that maybe going to an urgent care place to get checked out might not be the worst idea. Kinda started to realize that something was up when the nurse that does all of your biometrics went after and got her good gizmo after she saw what the first gizmo said that my blood oxygen levels was pretty low. Probably didn't help me out at all that I had done a double red blood donation on thursday right before i felt anything. Yes, Red Cross was called and notified that donation they might not want to give to live patients right now. Anyways, the doc worked me up and had me do a breathing treatment right there in the office and gave me a steroid shot in me bum. That did a whole lot to open up my lungs and that seemed to perk me up a lot. More meds as well to help clear stuff up. And told me not to work to at least Wednesday. Can't be hacking up flem on the clients now right??

Anyways, they took out the beans on Thursday, and my brother moved the horse trailer so that I can move the coop into its winter position. At least get it there and start the process of getting it buttoned up for winter. Maybe Thursday I'll take the time to pull the tarp off of it to put a new one on it. Kinda surprised with all the wind we had here over the weekend that it didn't start any big tears in it. definitely not going to last Winter.
