Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

FowlFest is coming up, November 3d and the morning of the 4th. I'm planning on going Saturday. Birch Run, not so far from here.

Ooooo, that would be so tempting, kind of glad it's too far away.
I need to reduce my numbers.
Pretty much decided on which hens will go to stew.....
...and am going to sell(I hope) a few OE pullets.
Easy to type it, harder to execute(literally and figuratively) :D

Thanks everyone for the well wishes. Feeling a whole lot better and pretty sure I got it licked. Had the last of the antibiotics yesterday and I haven't felt a need to use the inhaler today at all.

Got the tarp off my coop so that I could switch it out. It was getting bad and I'm kinda surprised that it didn't get ripped with all of the wind we had here last weekend. Was glad that I started that project when I did because I had what I think was a young red tail land near the pen eyeballing the girls and it only took a little yell from me to have him taking off. Figured that since I was going to be out there all day, wasn't going to worry that much about him and locking the girls up. They were all mostly undercover at the time anyways. And picked up 40 bales of straw to have around the coop and build a windbreak wall with.

Today I got the coops slid over to their winter positions, put some plastic up on the front of the coop, and got a start on the windbreak walls as well. Just wished that it hadn't been raining all day as I would have liked to have gotten the chicken wire down for an apron around the coop and buried it a little with the straw bales on top of that. Just too soggy to be down on the ground like that today. Hopefully can get some time this week to do that.

4 old girls on Death Row this morning,
garage abattoir all set up,
gonna be a long day slaughtering/butchering.
Decided I might be able to put off some of the cleaning up until tomorrow,
that's the part that kicks my butt.
Gonna be great to have this task completed!

It's a little over an hour from here. What time are you going to be there? Maybe I'll make the trip.

Looks like folks are getting their pre-winter chores done. I'm glad I finally got the coop done. Straw bales for a wind break sound like a good idea. They are $5 per bale right now. I'll just wait until after Halloween and go trash picking after and get them for free.

Truss guy(s) is(/are) supposed to be here today. :fl

They were here.
They corrected several of the mistakes I made along the way and did not bust my chops too badly about it. The big door header is up and secured. Need the back door done. Tomorrow.
I had to make a couple of runs to the lumber yard to replace the lumber that was missing from the kit order. Menard's shorted me on quite a bit of material. On the other hand, I did rob some material since the delivery last fall. And some of it was water damaged after being stored outside all season long. :he

All in all, a lot got done today before they left.
