Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Well, I lost patience with my muscovy not selling and butchered all 11 this morning. The next birds that will need processing will be the drakes out of the Free Ducklings of Lapse of Judgement that I picked up earlier in the "fall". They're lots of fun, but if I kept every drake, bad things would happen. But their processing date isn't until next month. It's starting to feel more like winter as I approach my winter numbers and the pen starts to settle down.

Heater installed and running,
no more frozen nipples!
(at least on the chicken waterer)

Made a run to town at sunset. The bay was absolutely gorgeous.

Checked on the chickies in the new coop and they are doing well. I wouldn't call it warm , exactly. But it is draft-free and ventilated. The water founts didn't freeze even though it got down to the upper 20's last night. The heated fount is out now.

I'm thinking that I should pick up a load of straw and stack the bales around the outside of the coop as an added wind break.

Where is the ventilation in the coop...I don't remember seeing any?
Are they still on heat?

Three sliding thermal windows. Exit flow on the highest wall eave.

They are still on heat. They should be coming off soon. I want to check the temperature for a couple of days.

Did a little shop vac-ing in the coop shed, got the cardboard 'eave draft' blockers up over the roosts.

Nice to see the sun.
