Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Another dead hen today, one of the 2015 Chanties. She had blood from her mouth and nose, as maybe a head injury from flying into a wall? Or something? It hasn't been a good week for critters here...
Today I bought a new portable generator, electronic start, propane adaptable, wonderful. Until we tried setting it up; the dedicated outlet is 20A, good for the very old one, and this new one needs 30A. So much for being proactive and ready for ice!
Some weeks just go better than others, and maybe the old generator will work after all...

A visitor came to call tonight.
I don't mind seeing these beauties as long as I can keep the coop and eggs secure.
I suppose it was hungry and feeding on the bird seed. The devil dog pup wasn't so sure about the guest.

Yeah, just keep him out of the coop and you'll be fine. Come summer he'll just be happy in scarfing down all the ticks around your place.

Hope the ice isn't going to be too bad tomorrow. Poor Amy has to get up to open the store tomorrow morning and the ice is going to make it slicker than snot out there. But at least she should all be on Main roads getting there. My work has already canceled the first two sessions of the day and will be opening up at 12:30 instead of at 10 AM. Doesn't really affect my schedule much as my shift starts at 1:30 pm. But thinking that I might just head into work early tomorrow anyways.

Also, anyone else looking at hatchery catalogs lately? I've been looking at the Meyer Hatchery's website and see that they have lavender orpington pullets available there. And that they offer store pickup there as well. Its only about 2.5 hours drive for me. Be awfully tempting to take one of my off days like Thursday and drive down there to get some chicks.

Yeah, our deck and yard are completely coated in ice. Hoping it will melt by 1. Missed going into senior center with my therapy dog last week because of the weather. Week before because of me not feeling the greatest.
You all be careful out there....

We ventured out and made it to work ok. It's more of a crusty ice, so not quite as slippery. Most of the main roads and HWY are salted and clear. The back dirt roads are probably not that good. We're supposed to get another batch of freezing rain this morning.

I've spent the last few evenings stripping paint out of the inside panels of an antique oak armoir . Hubs is going to use it for his snake. The armoir is a break down type so we can work on a section at a time. The top piece, had 3 layers of old wall paper that had to be stripped first. Tonight I'll strip the god awful bright yellow paint that's left behind and then hubs will do a final strip to clean the paint out of the wood pores.

I am searching for a rattery cage. The pair of rats we have to raise "food" for the snake, need a larger cage. If anyone has a large, small animal cage that has 1/2 bar spacing or less, please contact me. Mom rat, Possum, is very preggers and I'm gonna need the space.
