Also, anyone else looking at hatchery catalogs lately? I've been looking at the Meyer Hatchery's website and see that they have lavender orpington pullets available there. And that they offer store pickup there as well. Its only about 2.5 hours drive for me. Be awfully tempting to take one of my off days like Thursday and drive down there to get some chicks.

And when are you thinking of doing that?

Yeah, just keep him out of the coop and you'll be fine. Come summer he'll just be happy in scarfing down all the ticks around your place.

I was lucky last year. None of the dogs had any ticks. Hopefully that holds true for this year as well.

I have a wide diversity of wildlife around me. It is great. Insects, in general, weren't that bothersome. Visitors complained about mosquitoes but they don't bother me. I rarely get a bite. Deer flies like me though. I can do without them.

I didn't use any prevention this year, long story...
...was fine until later in summer when the ticks were horrible, finally had to treat him.
Others here had a huge uptick, haha, at the same time.

If any ticks, make sure he's tested for more than just heartworm!

My road was just plowed. There was only an inch or so of snow but it had a light layer of crusty ice on top. This county has the best road crew in the state.

Our road hardly ever get maintained. In town the roads are always plowed and salted. We had snow on our street last week until it melted on Sunday. Haven't seen any plow trucks going by.

My road, which is used heavily for school traffic, was plowed but not salted and now, after a day of rain then low of 11 degrees, is a rock solid sheet of ice. You could strap on skates and run to town

I don't know how I lucked out with such a great road. And such terrific maintenance. This is a 1/4 mile dirt road that dead ends in a turn around. The county even plows the turn around. It gets graded twice a year with the big monster grader. Last fall I asked about getting some gravel to fill a couple of pot holes that the dirt bikes and quads caused. That request had to go through the township for review and approval. A month later, the road was re-graveled, graded and rolled smooth.

This dirt road is smoother than any paved road in the greater Detroit area. lol
