Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

In local chicken news...broody seems to have found her fierce to fight back after day 3 of integration.
Should be an interesting day as an all day downpour is predicted,
keeping them all confined to the coop.
I swear I think incubating is easier.

So sorry, Matt. Love the apple tree for her.

We had such fun at the get together with all the folks that we chatted with on line. Yes, a lot have had to give up chickens and no longer come. But, we also have had some new blood come and we're trying to get them involved. You're missing out of meeting some awesome people!!
I guess we'll be having it at my house next year! Or other suggestions will be welcomed. I hate to not get to see the friends from this forum. We've come to know one another on a personal note.

Candy mentioned that there's a pavilion in Williamston that's free to use; can we check that out? Wonder if it can be reserved?
I enjoy meeting the people and talking in person, way better than only online.
Small is fine with me, it's still fun!

Sorry to hear about the horse. Love the apple tree! Having alkl these animals ultimately means they go to the earth at some point...always sad.

Yes we do usually gab about CS once it's done. Just like when I finish my annual ALZ fundraiser and then I'm quiet until a month before the next year. I will try harder to recruit new members and reach out to old ones throughout the year. I did get some positive vibes from older members but they just did not come. I did however get my friends to come and she joined this page but has not posted, lol. I also understand human dynamics and how some folks just won't go and then there are the last minute emergencies. Understood. Next year when the time is close we'll just do a head count and if it's small decide where to go. I'm open to anywhere within 2 hours. The place we use now is about that. It's a good location for anyone in the lower part of the state. Anyone else, well, plan accordingly, ha ha. If we can get SillyChicken to make a new flyer next year I'll post them where ever I can and send them to people in other counties. I'm sure we could bump up the numbers. In any case I'm happy with the few that were there...

It was nice that it was on the smaller side. We really do get to talk then.
Candy, can you check out the pavilion you mentioned? See if it can be reserved. Any one else in central Mi have ideas of another site, chime in.

Just not my thing.
When CS started this thread was rocking with quite the 'community',
I couldn't keep up and didn't fit into that dynamic anyway.

I've heard that many times over the years. I know I lurked for about a year before even joining BYC. It can be difficult for some people to jump in to the middle of what seems like an inner circle of a group. And then to do it in person. :barnie

Maybe the idea of smaller gatherings is one that could take off. I know I could have people here for a day or weekend party. I'm just not centrally located. I also haven't connected with any chicken people in my area. (Had a brief visit from a BYCer last year and lunch with one this year)

Any other ideas?

Or north a bit centrally located. 2 hours is my max. I think that might be why some of the northern peeps stopped coming.

BIG, I'm sorry to hear about your mare. 27 is Really good for a horse! I had to put my pony down last week, chronic laminitis that became acute due to a severe bout of Heaves. He was such a character and I'll miss him. RIP Mr. Oreo Cookie
