Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

It was pretty windy up here so the yard was cleared by lunch time. I opened all the windows when I got home from work and aired out the house.
I have family showing up tonight and tomorrow morning for the weekend so I'm glad I dont have to de-skunk my dog. Hopefully with all the ruckus in the neighborhood this weekend it will keep the little stinker away. I live on a private drive and during summer holidays the neighborhood comes alive with the weekend warriors. When the snow flies we're all alone up here it's nice. :) Too bad I dont have a rooster anymore to wake up the hungover neighborhood at 4 am. :lau

So I finally weakened! Chicks are $0.50 at TSC in Williamston, and ONLY ten followed me home today. Two mystery chicks, and eight Cornishx for the freezer. I'm so bad! I swore never to get those poor little meat birds again, and here they are.
Then, one of the two 20a circuits at the coop is shorting out. :he At least it's not winter yet, although there's no fixing it until next week at least.
So, a much bigger hassle setting up the chicks, now in the garage brooder.
Beautiful weather here! Love it!

We had it all upgraded and done to code by an electrician a couple of years ago, and until now it's been great. Tuesday he's getting a call...
The joys of home ownership!

Electrical isn't something we like to mess with. Had an electrician run power to our new garage last year. We're almost ready for him to come back and finish wiring the inside. We're doing all the construction work ourselves. If we can build a house we can build a garage I think. :fl

How are the newest additions doing?

Wow, this site is a ghost town. Where I enjoyed the cooler weather and not sweating. I'm not ready for the 40's!!! Not ready for fall, not ready for the cold weather to come in. It's forecast to be a cold and snowy winter. Can it be any worse than the brutal cold of last winter???
Hope you all are doing well... Have a good one

IKR!?
Wish the cooler days were longer, guess we can't have both, eh?
Hands were a bit chilly doing chores this morning,
almost wished I had gloves on,
house windows are barely open.
Gotta get that boiler pump ordered and installed soon!

Getting abattoir set up in the garage, Sunday is slaughter day!
The five 14 wo cockerels are getting cockier by the day.
Caught one going after a hen in the coop this morning,
stopped him cold with the hand hoe I use for scraping boards. HA!!
Their chaotic harassment may have something to do with low egg counts,
tho a couple birds are definitely molting already.

Yeah it is quiet. This morning while doing chores I heard one of my chicks from this spring practice a couple of crows. I was able to rehome the one I knew was a rooster, so now apparently I have a second. Here I thought that I was getting better at sexing them. Must be one of my brown leghorns, since seemingly over night it has a comb and waddle that is bright red. The feathers didn't give him away, but none of them are laying quite yet. So after work I will look closer.
As for the weather, this is my favorite time of year. Give me the cool nights and 70's during day. Maybe I am cheap, but then I don't have to run the furnace, or air AND my wife isn't complaining about being uncomfortable.
