Sounds like Aldi's $0.50 eggs....can't remember the word for the cheap basics to bring folks into the store. I certainly wouldn't call $1 gal gouging.
I believe that the term is loss leader. The idea that you'll sell maybe a few basic items in the store for a loss with the hopes that you'll get more people into the store for that item, and then they'll buy other stuff there that would make up the loss.

Might just be without a car for a while as well. Amy's licence plate has been getting bad and she went and ordered a new one. But Saturday we was just about to go over to some friends of ours and I noticed that half of the painted covering had peeled up and was kinda flopping around. Opted to take my car that night, and she's going to be taking my car to work tomorrow as well. Guess Best Buy is going to be curbside pickup only for the next couple of weeks.

We're covered in snow. Looks pretty. Should be gone by tomorrow.
Son in law came yesterday and installed some can lights in the kitchen. People who had this house built did some weird things in here. Have a huge kitchen/eating area. There are 4 can lights in the kitchen area. Then there's nothing until the other end of the eating area where there are two. Barely over the end of our table, which is 7 1/2 ft, without leaf. Lot of dark area over table, There was over 20 ft without lighting!! Now we have a very bright kitchen! lol
Daughter and other son in law went grocery shopping for us and delivered it here.
Took dogs for a walk with daughter and son in law's aunt sent over freshly made bread! Sure felt the love!
Be smart, Be safe. Stay at home.

Snow here too, about 3"....should be gone by tomorrow, so only shoveled a few places.
Have to go to bank and grocery stores today.<cringes>

Had a little bit of snow this morning. It's nearly all gone now. Just a few spots that are shaded. The sun is out and it sure is pretty. Lots of birds are visiting the feeders and suet cakes. Several breeds of woodpecker have been on the peanut butter log.

Self quarantine? Not a problem. So much to do and see around here. :thumbsup

Still plenty of snow up here, supposed to get more Thursday.
Most of the time when you get gigantic eggs like that they are from older production layer type hens, The shells are also often thin on them. That's why I gave up on Isa Browns and other such crosses.
