When I lived in Davison, we hardly ever saw a squirrel. Neighbor across the street had a lot of them. Moved to Dimondale, and saw very few. Now, 5 years later, there are so many! And never saw red squirrels. Now, holy cow, they're all over!! Don't know where they all came from.

I love those tree-rats.

I would love them too if they would stay in the trees, but those red squirrels are the most destructive beasts on earth. They chew stuff up just for entertainment - I can't have Christmas lights in the trees, because they chew up the wires. And they run off the Fox squirrels, which I like much better. I'm always happy when the predators thin the out.

I'm considering live trapping red squirrels near the house now, for the first time ever. Can't use bait or snap traps, because of ancillary damage, but trap and shoot, I can do.
Today, two dead young raccoons in the back yard, thanks to our dogs. YES! The dogs got a half grown raccoon a few weeks ago, so they got rabies boosters over that episode, so all good now.
I've stopped feeding the songbirds for now, to discourage the wildlife from coming to the house. A few days ago a skunk was there, fortunately the dogs weren't outside then.

Fox squirrels around here. They are the only ones I've seen. A female raised her babies in the tree that I have a motion light on. Her nest was 25 feet up in a hollow in the trunk. It was cool to see the little ones venture out from the nest.

I put out some pine boughs out to block the old dirt bike trails that came from the state land. Hopefully the brush will provide rabbit habitat and keep the trespassers out.

Tomorrow is the pre-op work for Monday's surgery. Tests, scans, blood draws and who knows what else. I'm glad to be going in. Today was rough at work and I had some symptoms present that I never had before. I sure didn't like that feeling.

I switched my medication/pharmacy over the the Meijer. Not only was there no co-pay, I got a coupon good for $25 off my shopping. I get one for each transfer. I'll also get a coupon for each new prescription. I'll score big with all the prescriptions that will come with this surgery.

When we moved here, we had to replace the brush piles and logs blocking the trails into our property too, and had to replace them a couple of times before they stayed blocked.
Then the jerks who were poaching deer moved away, another win!

What a busy, busy day. Just a couple of pre-op things to do before the surgery. At least that is what they said on the phone. Once I got to the hospital (a half-hour before appointment time) they seemed confused as to why I was there. They finally got the paperwork sorted out and I had to undergo a bunch of other tests and procedures. That created a problem because those departments close at 2 on Fridays. So why was I scheduled for 1:30 and 2:30 appointments? And they wonder why my blood pressure was high.

Anyway, it all got done.

After that, it was a mad dash down the freeway to meet Mary @Folly's place to pick up some birds. We did a bird transfer in the Menards parking lot. I'll bet it looked like a drug buy on their security cameras. The exchange was smooth and trouble free. Didn't have to chase any escapees as there were none.

Got the new birds home and put away in the quarantine area without any issues. Within minutes the mature rooster crowed and shortly after, the young cockerel tried his croak...I mean crow. LOL All of the new birds settled in right away to their new home. It was a smooth transition. I think this will be a good flock and I'm happy to have a rooster again, along with a young cockerel. Despite the transfer and long ride home, all of the new chickens are calm and have settled in nicely.

I'm glad the birds are doing well, and need updates, with pictures, later. It was hard to send Junior off, but will work out well for both our flocks, I hope. It was quieter here without him!
Found out yesterday that our long term boarder has moved, and will be taking his team of Dutch Belted steers to his new place soon. Good for him, sad for us. We will miss him, and will probably have to loose our two steers by fall; one is having more trouble with arthritis, and the other is actually a jerk who should have left last year.
Change happens...
