Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

The yogurt 'starter' comes from the live culture yogurt that you would buy fresh to add to the milk for each batch. Or maybe use some of your own yogurt to make another batch, sort of like keeping sourdough going.
The goal is to have yogurt, without other 'interesting' additional critters growing in it.

Never would I use unpasturized milk! Microbiology cured me...

Anyone else vaccinated for C-19? We get our second dose soon. Wonderful! Reducing risk is so good!

Big fan of raw milk here. Can't find any herd-share dairy farmers around here. I use to get "natural" milk from Calder Dairy in SE MI. It was pasteurized only to the minimum temperature that the law allowed. I loved the cream plugs in the neck of the glass bottles.

I'm opting out of this Covid vaccine. Old enough to be at the top of the list but I'm not buying in. Thanks to my biology degree for teaching me a high level of skepticism regarding research papers, peer-reviewed data, and statistically significant analysis.
However, I am watching the trials of a vaccine developed by Oxford that shows promise after a small trial. They need a much larger sample size before drawing any conclusions.

From what I've read so far, it is reported to "prevent" a person from getting the disease. It is also claimed to "prevent the spread" of the disease. It is a one-dose shot. It doesn't need super-cold storage. It "seems" to have a higher efficacy to start.

I'm NOT promoting this vaccine either. I want more data as compiled by un-biased, science-based review. I just like how the early experiments were method based, sound experimentation that can be peer-reviewed before announcing a "cure".

@Sally PB how is the “falcon” plow working out?? Can’t wait for a review.

I too love the IP. I made chicken chili in 20 minutes for a gang of people.

my girls are on lay one day...off the next day!! And my Easter egger hasn’t layed in 10 days along with another Egger of some sort that hasn’t layed one egg yet since i bright her home as a chick!!:rantall good I guess in the end since I got them more for their company than eggs.

As for vaccine...I just turned 50 and am in pretty good health. I will likely not get it due to the reviews and research I have read. I have always supplemented well to improve immunity. As much information that is out there, I’ve read it doesn’t keep you from getting the virus, but how your body reacts to it based on the mRNA. Not a scientist by any stretch and respect all of you for your decision.
Who would have ever thought we would be living through this. You can only imagine my 83 yo dads comments!

dipping down to single digits this week...let’s hope it goes by quickly:)

There are very few vaccines that prevent you from getting an infection. That is not how they work. Some of them even give you an infection, of a modified or similar less lethal strain. They work to increase your immune response, so your immune system controls and eliminates the infection more effectively. But you can still get an infection, there is no debate about it, and no one is trying to hide anything about these vaccines.
The vaccines that have been developed so far are clearly intended to prevent serious illness and reduce how fast this terrible disease spreads. They will only work if enough people take them to reduce overall infection rates.
The only vaccine that I can think of right off the top of my head that prevents infection is for Rabies, and it is a rarity.
Oh, and I can't wait to get vaccinated. Bring it on.

The Falcon has landed! And the Falcon has plowed! So far, so good. It's an 8 cylinder, and hubby thinks it is either a 350 or 402 for the engine, so plenty of power.

It has many "quirks." Hubby said the brakes are weak, and there is a leak in the transmission somewhere. It's hard to know which gear it's in, as the steering column needs to be rebuilt. (Automatic, shift on the column.)

It's a "project" for him to work on and learn while he does. It will be really nice not to have to snow blow our drive way... it's a quarter mile out to where the county plows.

I got that when I was cave diving down in Quintana Roo, Mexico. It was also a malaria zone so I was drinking quinine sodas like crazy.

Due to work, I wasn't able to get any plowing done around here, Until today. We were sent home early. Neither the tractor nor the UTV wanted to start in the cold. But after several tries they fired up. Plowed about 6 inches of snow from the neighbor's and my driveways. I probably should have left the snow depth. I'm sure the thin layer left behind the plow will turn into a sheet of ice.
Anyway, it felt good to be out in the brilliant sunshine even if it was darn cold.
