Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Sorry, I already placed my order so I can't help.

Decided to go back to a couple of my favorites... Salmon Faverolle and Sumatra, though I am trying the blue sumatra instead of just black. I have the chance to get splash, black or blues with them so we'll see how it goes. I plan to house these birds separatly
for breeding.

I actually went through Blaines to get my chicks, it was cheaper than the list price and no shipping. They are getting birds from Cackel Hatchery.... I've never gotten birds from them though I did get some from Blaines a few years ago so maybe I did! lol! They were all thrifty and have done well so I hope these birds do as well.

Anyone interested in mini rex bunnies? I am thinking about breeding the rabbits I have.

I will look into that idea. I do know that I have moles. Where the chickens will go, I guess they will not have grubs but I think grubs are way bigger for chickens, are they?
I also want to get a small garden going, well two. One for the chicks and one for me. I have no clue what my little puppy will do once she sees them,:idunnoMy puppy is bipolar, well add, adhd at times. She can get so much energetic at times even though at most she is just laying around. I have to keep an eye on both. Do not need a chick to peck on the poor thing, lol

I do have questions about the feed. If they are laying eggs they need to be fed different? as a little girl, I do not remember about any feed. My mom will give them kitchen scraps. I would love to hatch them but if one is a rooster, then I will have to eat it and after seeing it come to life, that will be a bit hard. oh, no my bad, there was something called purina and it was like round brown pellets as well as crumbed corn. I have no clue what those are called on English unless the purina was due to the brand. I do not use any Purina brand, my dog is allergic and they hold their corn too long and is gets mold. My dog got ear infection twice because of my stupidity of not reading labels.
Is there a was to order from a hatchery and them being females?
Thank you for all the advise, it is much welcomed.:thumbsup
I prefer using the pellets rather than the crumble feed. They seemed to waste the crumble by scooping it out of the feeder. It could have been because I used to mix a bit of corn in with the crumbles a long time ago ( which I stopped doing because the scooped out the feed looking for the corn)!

When the hens reach laying age, thats when you want to switch to a layor feed.

Also, if you feed grain or hard shelled seeds etc, you'll need to feed grit if they don't have access to find their own tiny stones to help grind up the seeds. The processed feeds turn to mush and don't need ground down.

Right now the betting commercials are my most detested. Especially the gal who says, "Make. It. Rain."
OMG, those things are on non.stop!
And so full of bullsh!t they're almost worse than the supp medical insurance ones.
I think it's because they just legalized online betting in Michigan.
I only have a few over the air tv channels.

There's one that the gal says, "So you can play longer with your money." Ummmm, no. I don't play with my money. My money works for me. Money ain't a toy, it's a tool.

We got rid of our dish a few months ago. Don't miss it a bit. I'd get rid of the TV, but hubby wouldn't.

Hi guys,
I went and picked up my babies at Home & Farm store. They looked good until I set them down at home. The guest room is at 70 degrees and added an electric heater close by. However, they are quiet and kind of set under each other now. At first Pixie and I just looked at them as they were eating but later they kind of moved one over each other. Do I need to place a lamp over too? I have my night lamp that I can move it there. Please help, I don't want to miscarriage!

It needs to be 90-95 degrees where the chicks are. If it's not, add a heat lamp. You may need to experiment with the height of the lamp to get the temperature right. If they are all cuddled together, they may be too cold and trying to get warm.
