Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Without going back to look all those posts over again, are you talking about an open Coop or an open run? I don't have any issues with an open run, but an open coop is probably not appropriate for this climate.

To me all three of those look like girls

This actually seems to work pretty good, it forms an air cushion.
And seems to be situated away from prevailing winds.
Watch the whole video.

What's everyone got going on for Easter? My family is coming over. I'll be having my parents, brother, sister with her husband and 4 kids, then my uncle and cousin, and finally my grandma. Oh and can't forget the ducks even though they won't be joining us for dinner 😄

Did get them some minnows for them to have fun with and eat and making them a nice Easter dinner for them to enjoy to give them a break from their regular boring old feed (mostly cause their feed hasn't shipped to the store yet)

Sorry but I just don't think that would work up here, or really any place where there is really significant bad winter weather. I certainly understand that concept of prevailing winds, but up here we get ferocious storms out of the northwest, East and south. Which direction would you point the coop?

When we confine animals and keep them in our power, we owe them certain things, and one of those is adequate housing. Like I said, they can certainly survive that kind of situation, but it is not ideal. Why would we offer our birds less than what is better than that? And if we can't offer them that, maybe we shouldn't keep them.

I wouldn't either, juts sayin that design seems to work for them.

I had assumed you lived with your parents.
That sure sounds like a houseful!

The other night was dark when I went out to close the coop. I heard feathers ruffling in the trees. Grabbed a spot light and shined up. Spooked a bunch of big birds (5 foot wingspan) up in the last of the fading light. I couldn't see them well but I didn't think they were buzzards...just didn't have the right head. I thought maybe migrating owls.
Anyway, I was out earlier last night and saw them again. Grabbed the binoculars and they were definitely turkey vultures. I counted 20 as they were coming in to roost. There were more that I heard but didn't see.

Might have to change my name to Hinckley. ;)
