I'm going to be contacting an arborist Monday to see about getting some relief from the blasted gypsy moth caterpillars. Their poop is everywhere, and some of the trees are getting skeletonized.

We had this about 20-some years ago. Got someone out and they injected the trees with something that killed the bugs, then gave them a "tonic" to help them recover from the onslaught.

We really don't want to lose our oaks.

An EE is a mish-mash of breeds generally. We had a frizzle cochin 12 years ago that bred an Ameracauna hen. We kept breeding the gene back to Ameracauna and this is the result. That means we've had frizzled chickens for 12 years already....wow time flies, it sure hasn't seemed that long.

That is kinda what it takes, glad it flew by for ya.
Do you have trouble with them staying warm in our winters?

Yep, ours do and we have a couple that lay very nice blue-ish eggs, more blue than green.

I need one of those blue eggers!!

Hi Everyone!
Crazy day here as well. Besides my personal problems made a few plans for the yard and the girls. However, the rain did not let me do much. It was on and off so the girls went in and out when I could. Left the door open and got water inside. Put some hay and sand dried up. Also the fan was blowing at high. Anyways, they are crazy.
Rachel, the miniature egg laying hen, spent big part of the morning sitting on the nest over the ceramic egg and I thought she would lay an egg. Nope! She was just sitting on the fake egg.

So this afternoon after spending most of the time in the kitchen cooking roots and well, crazy Puerto Rican food, since I went to GR yesterday


So I went out to give them some of the meat that was at the end of the pot and Rachel squatted for me. So I picked her up but felt kind of rough bottom. She scratched me all over as usual but got her upside down and checked. At first I thought it was just mud but decided to take pictures to make sure. This is just on her middle chest between her legs, thighs, but nothing under the wings or near her vent. I picked up a few and checked them and no other has that. Please let it be mud, dirt!!! Thank you for helping me.

We give them more protection than we do the smooth feathered ones, you pretty much have too.

Today the birds were rubbing and scratching when outside, and some of the nine week olds were sleeping out there. NOT normal! So tonight i did a mite check, and guess what? DS is out there right now spraying everyone, and the coop. Two weeks ago, normal mite check found none.
LOVE those wild songbirds!!! NOT!!!
Now the coop needs a total clean-out, not part of the plan either. And will be working and very busy for the next week also. Timing! Love it!
